Topic: Palmerston North friend needed Posted: 29 March 2010 at 2:03pm |
This is going to sound very desperate but I'm in need of a friend or 2. My bestie lives in a different city and I'm too shy and pathetic to talk to other mums at the groups I go to with my two children. I've made a few friends in Palmerston North but they each have their own busy little lives. I really need some support and I want to give some to someone else, as this parenting thing is hard and often lonely.
I'm 30married and have two children. One is one the other is three. When/if I ever manage a moment to myself I love to sew wee kiddies clothes, quilts etc. I'm passionate about breast feeding and love to bake muffins... Nom nom
If you think I don't sound like a total nutter and you are in need of a friend too please contact me. This isn't my real OhBaby account as I don't want people I know, to know I'm doing this as I feel like a total loser! Lol
I hope to hear from you soon :0)

Have you been to any of the Palmy meet ups? Maybe we should have one before I go and when Becks gets back, they're great fun for meeting other mummies.

Aw I feel your pain, being shy is horrible!! I have only just started meeting people where I am now, and now that I have, I wished I had of when we first moved here! Funnily enough my partner might get posted up there soon, but I was also going to suggest the meet up thread.

If I was in Palmy (or had a way of getting there) I would put my hand up. I find it very hard to put myself out there.
Best of luck.

Hey thanks for all the encouragement. It's taken me a while to get the balls to do this.
Yeah meet ups are good but I just don't do well in large groups. I keep thinking that one day I'll meet someone with the same friend needs as me but it just ain't happening. Everyone seems to have their close friends already.

I know how you feel, I am not too good at small talk and find it hard striking up a conversation with people. I am very lucky that I have a few friends from coffee group, although one of them moved back to the UK last December

I am not in Palmy either, but I really do know how you feel. I was never one to have a lot of friends and have kind of drifted away from my best friend as our lives have gone in very different directions. My other best friend did the dirty on me and so that changed our relationship heaps.
I find it hard to make close friends. I have lots of acquaintances now, but noone special as such. You're right, it can be really lonely. It's really nice to have a bestie or someone you can have really girly chats with.
I hope you find someone who can be that person.
xx

Unfortunately your situation is one of the reason's I'm so keen to move to Akl, to be closer to my friends and family.
I don't really know anyone down here that I can relate too I have found Palmy a difficult place to make friends and meet people in general, we don't go to church and we're not from around here, I actually find Akl people friendlier and more sociable.

I'm nt in Palmy either but just wanted to say I know how you're feeling. I live in Tokoroa and I have no real friends here. I don't have problems talking to people but like you say, everyone seems to already have THOSE friends and there never seems much room for little ol' me.
I hope you find someone you're looking for. Is there anyone that you DO talk to, that can help you strike up conversation with some new people. Sometimes it takes a helping hand with things like this.
Best of luck.

I'm in Feilding if that heaps you at all. I have a 14 month daughter and don't have much time for socialising at the moment. I do work full time during the week but wouldn't mind catching up a the weekends. PM me if you want to.

Great idea Mum2Mac! I do have a friend who seems to know everyone at two of the groups we go to. Asking her might be a great step in the right idea. Thanks :)
thanks CaliandJack you have filled me with such hope. lol. nice to know that I'm not alone though. I have been starting to wonder if maybe I'm strange or something? but I think I'm pretty normal. But then, I spose everyone thinks that. hehe
Thank you Ocsarboo. I really need a friend who can socialise during the week. Playdates, playing with each others kids while the other one does their washing, going out for fluffies, that kinda thing :)

I'm in Palmy!!!! And in a semi-same situations to you. We moved here in August 08, and since then I have meet a few people, but very few who I would call my friends. We meet at playgroups and might get along well, but it stops when playgroup is over. I am slowly collecting a few phone numbers and visits outside of playgroups......I am quite shy myself, but having an outgoing DH has helped me to push myself out there!
I have 3 yr old twin boys and a 18mth old boy.
My big boys are at kindy in the mornings, but we have most afternoons free, so if you're feeling brave, send me a PM and maybe we could arrange a wee meeting somewhere??
Which part of Palmy are you in? There is a small coffee group just starting out in the Westend/Awapuni plunket rooms on Wednesday mornings. If you are close by, pop in on a Wednesday (not on this week, then a 2 wk break for school holidays). Starts at 9.30am.

Hey there,
Yeah Palmy sucks for meeting people! The people i've met have been through ohbaby or via ohbaby friends!!!
I went to the Highbury library 2 weekly jumping jellybeans on friday just been. There was only me & my 2 14 month olds & another lady who has a son in my daughters class who had 2 3 year olds there. So nice quiet group. Oh there was one other baby who was the grandchild of the librarian. Didn't seem to bad eta: the session I mean LOL
I'd love to get out a little more & hopefully that will happen after the school hols cause I will have a double buggy.
I am going to try & get to the St Davids music group on a thursday but think that these two are a little too young for it yet.
I'm in Awapuni North. We should all plan another palmy meet up.
