    Posted: 14 April 2010 at 9:42am
I'm a bit of a mess.
Last night I sat up from lying on the couch and thought I had peed my pants.
I shot off to the loo where I found it was not pee but blood. I had a big flow of it and passed a clot.
I rang (and woke ) my midwife who told me to monitor it and go to the emergency dept if it didn't slow up.
It did slow and is next to nothing now but I can't help but be a bit freaked out still.
MW offered me another scan but we've decided to just wait and see how it goes as I just had my 12 week scan yesterday, where everything looked great.
This isn't the first time I've had bleeding in this pregnancy, I had cramping and spotting at 9 weeks. A scan then showed no sign of where the blood was coming from.
Now I feel a bit stuck in limbo. Yay that the bleeding is slowing and I should be able to take comfort in knowing that bubs was looking absolutely fine and perfect just yesterday.
I just can't shake the feeling after seeing all that blood. I just want to know that everything is going to be ok.
I'm so tired and emotional. Trying to stay calm and maintain common sense is a bit impossible right now.

Get another scan to ease your mind.

I bled (lots) at 6 weeks and then roughly every 10 days until 17 weeks. Scared the bejesus out of me every time and they never found the reason. I'd get either another scan or some hcg's done though to check things are still on track - just to ease your mind.

I'd get the scan. It might show where the blood has come from this time

Thanks for the replies and the hugs!
I called my midwife back and she came around with the doppler. (She's so good!)
Bubs still has a lovely strong heartbeat and I'm feeling a million times calmer knowing that.
Thanks again!

Your midwife sounds fantastic and I'm so glad she could come over and reassure you - and hey, you have my number and know how to find me on Facebook / MSN, so please don't hesitate to reach out ANYtime... I know what the stress is like *big hugs*

I had random bleeding through trimester one and my DD arrived healthy and happy at 40 weeks 3 days! It could be hormonal changes in the cervix, (cervical erosion I think is the fancy name), just means the blood vessels sit closer to the outside and bleed easy especially with pushing. It is horrible though. Awesome MW to put your mind at ease like that

Thanks guys!
I love how you can bring just about any scary/weird/funny/horrible thing here and there are always people who've been there and those that haven't but all of them offering support and caring.
Such an awesome community of women.

Bleeding has all but stopped now and I'm feeling happy and confident about my pregnancy again. Fingers crossed this is the last time we'll have a scare like this!

Yay! So glad that the bleeding has pretty much stopped.   It's so bloody scary seeing blood there when there really shouldn't be.   I woke up on the day of Sam's second birthday party at 13 weeks and found that I was bleeding.    It was hard to stay calm that day!   And the little bugger stayed in there well over his due date and still wouldn't come out!

I keep meaning to say congrats! You make lovely children!

Aw hun *hugs*

With Isabella I had a huge bleed at 7 weeks, started out spotting brown, turned pink, then got cramps went red and I thought that was it and I was gonna M/C.
Had a scan ans it showed everything was fine, but I had a hemmorrage under the sac. After my scan I bled bright red for a while, then it went back brown.

Hugs caraMel. I know exactly what you are going through. With Emily I had a few big bleeds just like you described, and continuous spotting throughout the first trimester. The bleeds would stop and start again and were really frustrating and really stressed me out. It was like that until 17 weeks when the bleeds stopped for good. I had heaps of scans but they couldn't see why I was bleeding either. Good to hear your MW came round with the doppler and you got to hear bubs heartbeat - it's so reassuring when you get to hear that sound after such a fright like that.

Glad to hear bub is behaving and you haven't had any more scares! Lil miss was a monkey like that, almost exactly the same even - as in, I had my 12w scan and all was fine, then 2 days later started bleeding. I had the doppler so I could listen to her heartbeat and it sounded fine, but the bleeding kept up on and off for 2 weeks, and at one point got so heavy that my blood pressure bottomed out and I ended up in hospital. Another scan showed no sign of anything wrong, and it eventually stopped and things progressed normally.

It is so, so scary when it happens tho

Emma, I keep thinking of your Little Miss and all the worry she caused you!
I'm hanging onto the knowledge that she's here and perfect because this is really doing my head in.
