Topic: Made in NZ gift help!! Posted: 12 September 2007 at 8:09am |
My cousin had a wee baby girl yesterday (only 2.5kg!) and I want to send over a gift for her (she's in Oz) but most of the shops I would go to over here to buy a pressie they have over there. Can anyone recommend somewhere (or something) to get a gift (clothing or?) made in NZ?
Thanks

oooh oooh buzzy bee would be kewl, or one of those mary-lou wooden dollies, it's classic kiwi kids stuff!
otherwise you could try souvenir shops - they tend to have heaps of made in nz stuff for the touristy type so i would say one of those places would be your best bet - also they'd be likely to sell the buzzy bee stuff too and clothes toys etc with them on it.

You could get something with All Blacks - a lot of the baby shops have All Black gear.

Thanks for your ideas everyone (and your PM Glow!) I should point out that they have lots of Buzzy Bee and ABs stuff because they have a 19mth son. I have been sending him HM books too but there's bound to be new ones!
Good idea about Mary Lou although I'll have to check she didn't buy it for the last bub (when she didn't know whether it was he/she).
I am really wanting to get her a little outfit so might look at the Mokopuna stuff

Check out some work at home mums on trade me.. the problem with buying stuff from a souivner shop is that it's mostly made in China (an issue that has been on my mind lately).
What about some possum or lamb skin booties, I had some lovely ones when Ella was born. Although depending on where in Aus she is, they might be too hot.

Babylicious has cool screenprinted t-shirts with NZ themes. Very cute and she's very cool. You can also buy TinyHappy stuff from her website too.

Not sure where in NZ you are - but Norsewear and Swazi do some lovely merino, possum and silk combo clothing for children. A lot of it has kiwiana on it.

I always thought the Mary-Lou dolls were a bit crap, but both my kids LOVED chewing on them. the one we got belonged to my mum - probably lead paint.

Baby factory sells All Blacks gear it's sooo cute. I've seen little silver boxes at different jewelery shops with paua shell made into the lid and things like that, they come in birth cert holders, 1st lock of hair box and things like that. My sister bought my youngest daughter one and got it engraved it's such a nice keepsake.

Thanks everyone. I perhaps wasn't as clear as I could've been - not necessarily looking for Kiwiana stuff just something that she won't be able to get in Sydney (wouldn't want to go to PP when she can get her own stuff there IYKWIM)
Found heaps of lovely stuff on the weblinks posted so now just need to decide what to get!
