Mum2Ella just got me scared in the "when did you start showing" thread...

So well in advance, where do you buy maternity clothes here?

Are there different places for casual and business maternity wear? I cant dress too casually at work.

sorry, didn't mean to scare you. I got my maternity jeans from PP, I think they also have some dressier wear for work. I also tend to wear pants with elasic waists around home (e.g. yoga pants). Egg have some beautiful maternity wear, JK have more causal type clothes. I am also eying up some pants from Womama (www.womama.co.nz).

i am sure everyone else will have some more ideas.....

Haha, I thought I had until at least 14 or 15 weeks before I'd have to get maternity clothes.

Now I'm thinking best I at least have a list of places to shop if thats not the case.

Thanks!

How pricey is maternity wear here? Hoping some of those shops show prices on their websites.

Off the top of my head Egg, Pumpkin Patch, K Mart and I think The Warehouse sell maternity clothes. Probably loads of others, depending where you live. I think all of them have a bit of a range, depends on your price bracket really.

I got some jeans from max too and then I think Jeans West also do them. I changed into pants quite early on but have really only started wearing the tops in the last few weeks as found regular clothes still ok - now they're mainly a bit too short :)

I've bought a few singlets from Jay Jays as they do quite long singlets which work for early bumps.

I have a workplace where I can be casual in the office but have to be dressed up at appointments.

I've invested in a LOT of Glassons black yoga pants and leggings....then depending on the day I wear them with flats, and various (non preggy) tops, jerseys etc or heels and maternity dresses from PP and Egg etc. I find jewellery, make up and shoes can totally change an outfit from tidy to office-y.

I actually think I dress better while preg than I did when I wasn't!

I looked at PP and Egg online... LOVE the Egg stuff but wow its pricey!

I havent bought clothes in so long I dont know what things should cost anymore.

Womama has a "birth wrap" that looks like something I'd happily wear every day.

I still have 2 maternity dresses but might look at getting some yoga pants and long maternity tops to get me through the week. Such a pity I gave all my maternity stuff away from last time!

Try this for the sale prices at pumpkin patch. It's for everything, but you can just select maternity and it will bring up all that stuff without the kids clothes. Helps on the pocket!

Have a look on trade me as well, you can get some good stuff on there, I managed to pick up a brand new egg skirt for half price. Also if your thinking about the birth wrap, I suggest looking round and trying to find a wrap dress, I wore one most of my pregnancy that I bought years ago from max and because it wraps its so comfortable and can stretch as its stretch jersey so goes over your bump, and just a normal wrap skirt is good too tied together with the black leggings you can get from glassons and farmers.

Also on trade me there's a wrap skirt . I have one of these from when we went to oz and want to get another but haven't found one I like yet. These are great as can be worn as a skirt, dress etc. There is one way to wear this dress that I wore when 6mths pregnant and almost completely hides your bump as well.

Glassons have heaps of long stretchy singlets at the moment which have been awesome for making my normal clothes last a bit longer and also they have some black dress pants that have the stretchy tops like the yoga pants do - I am still wearing them at 25 weeks and they will fit for ages yet I think. Have found Kmart the best for real preggy stuff and also the jeans west maternity jeans are awesome.

If you have a Dressmart close by, and they have J.K or Pumpkin Patch in it, that is a good place to buy cheaper nice maternity clothes.

Mama2b have a website which has beautiful maternity clothes. They are quite pricey but worth it if you are looking for a couple of good pieces. They are having a sale at the moment, with some things at half price.

all of the above and I just bought a dress from the tv shop called the sara dress, you can wear it loads and loads of different ways so its always looking different and also as a skirt. I add cardis, tights, stockings, boots, flats, heels and jewellery to it and apart from trakies round home I will prob spend the rest of my pregnancy in it. And it will fit after Ive had baby to.

I didn't actually wear a lot of maternity clothes till after the 8th month last time. Look for normal clothes but long things, you'll probably not be too much bigger except your tummy on the upper body, but most people's arse and thighs get a size bigger. I got given loads of maternity clothes but i didn't fit them until the very end (when you're often on leave anyway) so hardly wore any.

I bought some of those belly bands which help bridge the gap between your normal clothes and your bump. I just didn't want all my colleagues seeing my tummy hanging out!

Trademe is great as maternity clothes seem so damn expensive and usually don't start to fit for ages. Get a couple of nice maternity shirts for work and look for skirts with stretchy waistbands that you can wear low (under your bump) with a belly band to cover the tum.

Don't spend a fortune as you'll only be wearing them for a few months. It's amazing how much your wardrobe can stretch.

Ditto stretchy wrap dresses too! Oh and JK maternity t-shirts are the best!

Hi, there is an online store, Plush Baby that sell the Seraphine jeans, bit pricier but great fit - they also have the belly bands which I found great for wearing under tops to 'extend' their wear! They are on sale at the moment.

try www.poopeepants.co.nz aswell I used to work for them while I was pregnant and they have a wide range of prices and great selection. They are also delivered striaght to your door and if your looking for something in particular honestly try emailing catherine ( the owner) she may be able to sort you out something from the supplier that she just hasn't stocked up on.

Also in regards to the bellybands they are good for when BFing and you have to lift your top up, last thing youw ant is to be flashing your mashmallow tummy to the world. Gives you that coverage

You could try the egg factory shops - there is one in the fox centre over on the shore but I reckon its worth a trip into the head office one in sales st in town.
I've survived with a couple of egg skirts and dresses, tops from kmart & PP.

I had a few people give me some stuff too which has been fabulous - especially for just around home/yoga pants type things. But otherwise, I've sourced clothes from all of the above places!!
