    Posted: 25 November 2009 at 9:39am
I was all intent on being super mummy this year and making Cian a Christmas Stocking (after totally bombing last year, he got a gift bag ) and DH and I have decided that we're just going to play santa for each other instead of spending heaps of money on gifts, so need new stockings for us as well...

just wondering what everyone else uses? did you make your own or is there a cool one somewhere you can buy that isn't too cheesy? and if you make them - what from? DH says just to sew a pillow case into the right shape, but mine as a kid was made from felt...

help? please?

Ezibuy has really cool stockings that can be peronalised ($39.95). I found most "stockings" are too small to fit stuff in so have brought both my boys "Santa Sacks" fro Ezibuy and they were only $8 each.

Here is the Stockings

Here is the Sacks

Also here is a link for making your own with lots of ideas
Hope that helps.Martha Stewart

Spotlight has a section of materials for stockings and they have just plain fabrics (felty type stuff) or they have a full patterned ones that you just have to sew together

My Mum makes really neat stockings, they are really big but we loved them as kids. I'm 26 and still have mine.

She uses .7m of christmas material, the cotton quilting stuff from fabric/quilt shops, folds it in half and cuts out the stocking shape. She then lines it with that iron on lining stuff (or she may do that before cutting I can't remember. She sews it together with bias binding. Then adds a fluffy white fur top. If you use less material you can make cute little ones.

To carry on a bit of a family tradition, I have made my two their santa sacks - they are pillowcases that I have embroidered with their names, and each year they get to choose a picture that I will add. I had one when I was a kid and I treasure it now.

This is a picture of DS's (DD's is still a work in progress at the moment)

There is a Trademe seller who does personalised ones too

ah thanks Gypsynita!

I (very badly) hand embroider them. It is surprisingly a lot easier than I expected as I don't really have a creative bone in my body...

potato that is a really nice idea..i think i might have to do that as well.
i think i am gonna have to embroider a stocking for this baby, all the kids in our family get one but my mummy is a bit behind on them at the moment and three babies this year!
i embroidered my own one and have to do one for DH as well now ...i suppose anyway haha.
We had christmas material ones as kids, ie mum got christmas material and sewed into stockings, i am sure you can find a pattern online. i am gonna have to do a makeshift one for bubs coz i aint gonna be able to do one before xmas haha.

potato that's gorgeous, wish I was more arty.

I bought the kids stocking from the WH & they are large with animal heads, quite cute, DH & I have $2 ones.

I remember when I was little, one yr mum decided to do a xmas sack & put xmas pressie at the bottom of my bed...I was so upset as there was not any under the tree for me, so she never did that again. Still remember it.

I fill the kids stocking with things I got when I was a child, an orange, nuts, candy cane & sm toy. DH gets a few surprises also

Lol she keeps telling me that she's really busy and I should learn how to do them and make Esme's one!
In saying that I could get a good little income happening selling them on trade me. Hmm might have to try that next year

Wow, that's awesome! What a lucky boy you've got

I'd put his name on the red side, myself.
