We went to Palm Springs at Parakai when I was preg with Maya, I just made sure I didn't get too hot and didn't put my head under in case of creepy crawlies.

I haven't touched my in-laws spa since becoming pregnant (it's much hotter than the average spa though) or the local public spa... but am fully intending to swim about in a natural thermal spot in Taupo, should we make it there in a fortnight - and Hamner Springs sounds mighty hard to turn down, too!  I've not been there but they must have hotter and not as hot pools, mustn't they?

Yeah I was asking about this the other week....someone else mentioned that they were sure under 38 degrees was fine...but yeah it's all about making sure you have lots of water with you and don't over heat...listen to your body! It will tell you quick smart. I've jumped in a spa a while ago and got out before I started feeling hot...

I've just started swimming again and have been having a quick 5 minute spa after each swim to relax my muscles. I was always under the impression that if the temp was under 38 then you were ok. I wouldn't be putting my head under at any of the thermal parks just for my own safety.

I'm wearing a 2 peice with shorts and a long top. At least it covers the bump. You should be able to get togs now at a decent price.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

hi, I googled and found lots of info on it that were write ups from the thermal pool people.

heres one of them
Medical Notes
If you have any health concerns you should discuss them with your doctor before visiting the hot springs. Some conditions which require attention include pregnancy, low blood pressure, heart conditions, diabetes and some skin conditions.
There may also be other conditions to which this warning should also apply.

In the first trimester of pregnancy we do not recommend bathing in the thermal pools.

Also have the springs contact numbers etc if you want to give them a call and ask.

Thermal pools are breeding grounds for all types of nasty bacteria that can be very dangerous while pregnant. Because they (generally) do not add chlorine to the water, there is nothing to kill the nasties.

Personally, I wouldn't risk it. Don't mean to scaremonger, but I knew someone who caught meningitis from a thermal spa, and passed away 3 days later.

Luckily I'm in luck in that the pools in Taupo have a cool pool (34degrees) that is chlorinated and only thermally heated so I'm just going to pop my body in that one.

I'd check with Hamner and see if they have something similar....

Paws is that the one at Taupo Hot Springs up on the hill?? I love that park and that pool is the best to go into after being in the really hot hot pools. Well that was before I got pregnant. But we went there on our minimoon and it was great. I want to take Andrew up there before number 2 comes alog so we may have to make a weekend out of it.

I think so...it's the one by the Outrigger Terraces (formerly DeBretts) on the highway between Taupo and Napier...they have about 3 different pool temps as well as beauty spa services and private pools....bliss!!!
