Topic: Changing Eye Colour? Posted: 21 October 2006 at 6:40pm |
When did your guys babies change eye colour? My 5 mth old was born with blues (like his dad) but they have been turning gradually a strange sludge colour (very attractive poor little man!!) I have a feeling they are trying to turn hazel like mine but I thought if they were to change they would have done it by now?

I think I read that they can change anywhere between 3 to 6 months. I'm hoping Maddie will keep her blue eyes like her dad's but with me having brown eyes I'm not sure that will happen.

I have blue eyes and Quinn was born with my eyes. He is now over two and they are slowly changing colour to his dads green (much to the mother-in-laws delight!!)

Maya was born with blue eyes, they changed in the first few weeks, and the twins also have blue eyes, but the milky dark blue that newborns often have before they change color.

I was told by my Plunket nurse than eyes can keep changing for up to 2 years. In Han's case, that definitely was true.
She originally had dark blue eyes, which changed to the lovely sludgy colour, and have now emerged hazel/green... the same as my eyes (Atleast she has something from me!!)
So my theory is (with no genetic knowledge whatsoever) that green/hazel eyes take quite a bit longer to change than blue or brown.

Ashlee's have only changed to a lighter blue - hubby has blue eyes, I have hazel, my dad had really piercing almost ice blue eyes so I'm hoping Ashlee's stay blue, but it doesn't really matter, I guess!

Charlottes were blue when she was born- then went to navy when she was a few weeks old. They were the sludgy colour you talked about until she was about 9 months when they went brown

Alyssa had beautiful blue eyes until she was a year old. Then they went a grey colour and now i would call them green but that depends on what she is wearing. (still an awesome colour)
Jayde had blue eyes until she was about 7 months but they were a darker blue than lissys so i knew they would change. Now they are brownie hazel in the middle and blue on the very outer rim.

Ella's are still newborn-dark-blue but have already started to lighten in the centre. But how's this for random.... MY eyes changed colour after having her!! They're still green, but the middle has gone from grey to the same hazel middle my hubby's eyes have. Bizzare

all babies are born with blue eyes...
i think they do keep changing for a while... and i would imagine environment would play a part too - cause for a while they stay indoors lots more and sleep and then the more they open their eyes and the more light they are exposed to they change. well thats my theory anyway.

Both my girls were born with bright blue eyes, Briona's have stayed that way (like her dad's) but Hannah's have been changing over the last year to slightly blue-green (mine are green). I actually didn't notice hers change, it was that gradual, until I saw hers next to Briona's.
But eye colour can change anytime I think. My eyes were blue until I was about 13, then they changed to green... definitely green. (My mum has blue and Dad has brown.)

I feel for you - Charlotte is 6 months and her eyes are also a sludge colour which I have to agree is not very attractive. However, there is a bit of hazel colour in the centre that has started showing over the past two weeks. She was born with really blue eyes - I am gutted they are changing!

Keziah's eyes were really dark when she was born, but now they are dark blue with a darker ring around the outside... very pretty
