Topic: Never again (housework rant) Posted: 09 September 2007 at 11:30am |
I have spent almost an entire morning trying to clean the blinds in my kitchen. You know how surfaces in the kitchen get the sticky yellowish film on them? I'd finally got sick of the blinds and decided to tackle them.
3 hours later, I have blinds which are dirtier than when I started, half of them are broken, including the blimmin stick that turns them, and I'm covered in cuts from the stupid things! I *didn't* take into account how old they may be before I started, and how brittle old plasic gets (and how sharp it is when it breaks).
So, I've thrown a tantrum, left the blimmin things as they are, and I don't care if they look hideous.
Ooooohhh ... I'm so glad there is chocolate in the house at the moment!!

New blinds aren't cheap. We're replacing our rotten roller blinds in our kitchen - and one blind for one window is $300.
You can get one of those blind cleaning gadgets from the Homecare catalogue - I can recommend them.

Blinds aren't actually too bad if you have a VIP card and get them from spotlight when they are special hehe

LOL Ginger, I can just imagine throwing a tantrum too except I would've gone a step further & ripped them off the window
We got some wooden blinds for our kitchen from Spotlight too when they were on sale & they were a pretty good price from memory. Of course your windows do need to be a "standard" size for this to work.
Go the chocolate. You've just reminded me I have some in the cupboard...

I decided that I'd get them back by cleaning other things in the kitchen so that they'd feel bad being the only crappy dirty thing My cutlery drawer, fridge, kitchen cupboards, skirtings and microwave are still feeling a bit shocked, but it looks good!
(Yesterday was the pantry - cleaned from top to bottom, including the light shade! I can't seem to stop cleaning at the moment - the whole of last Sunday was spent emptying and sorting cupboards and wardrobes and cleaning the life out of them as well ... Oooo and the bed was pulled out, the walls behind the bed dusted and the floor vacuumed to within an inch of its life! )
And believe me, if I'd been able to work out how to get the blimmin things off the wall, they'd have been thrown a lot further than across the room!

What is it about spring? I've been cleaning and tidying like crazy too!
I hear ya on the blinds, Ginger, when I was a teen I once decided to clean the blinds in my room and boy I wished I had left them alone. How miserable! I don't think they were ever supposed to be cleaned.

I did the same too, a full house clean, skirtings, kitchen, bathroom, kids beds the other day.. then went off to work for the afternoon - boy i was tired.
Our kitchen blinds need doing too, but after reading this, I'll let mike do it.
