Funny how this was such a hot topic not that long ago!! Hows everyone getting on? I have been buying stuff, but not as excessively or for stupid things. Except food all the time (snack stuff) but I blame that on being preggy!

Anyway, I have decided that doing a no-spend month is too daunting to start with and things usually come up that you forget about, so am doing a no-spend week this week. So far has been no problems but its only Tuesday!

I'm so in! I have been shocking lately! Altho still commmitting money to savings regularly and have managed to build up a decent supply of 'emergency' money.
I can't really afford to spend atm anyway with our trip to Palmy next week and then the mega meet up.

Yikes I've been a shocker! Just bought 2 nappies off 2 lovely ladies here. Darn internet banking making it SOO easy!
Only area I seem to be doing well in is not spending money on food. We've set a budget and are trying to do groceries fortnightly except for fruit and veg and although we have kinda estimated it a bit low (so have gone over by about $30) we're not wasting nearly as much money as before.
We are going to Rotorua this weekend so next week I think I'll try to have a no spending week once we're back.

I'm in! I pledge not to buy anymore cute nappies or clothes for Sam until she actually fits the next size
We have actually been doing really well on the grocery etc front, but need to start putting money away for christmas and a skiing holiday next year!!!

I think everyone got bored with being good

I could do with getting back into this after a couple of expenses recently - a present for my new niece ( ) and new clothes for my new job (luckily lots in the sales). My holiday pay-out from this job will cover about half to two thirds of the cost which is good, but I still have the other bit to pay for. DH has had a stock-up on clothing too which was expensive, but at least we got that organised in the sales.

I've started poking bits aside for Christmas (AARRGGHH!!) - we have lots of nieces and nephews now, so it's getting hell expensive. So, we're trying to collect things as we see them.

I did a pantry/fridge clean last weekend and hardly chucked anything (and what I did chuck, we'd had for aaaagggggeeeessss ) which means that we're planning groceries better - yay!

Oooo ... and there was that awful patch where the local rates, water bill AND regional rates came in at once *shudder*

All in all, doing ok, but could be doing better.

ohhh we are soo trying to be good and paying off the credit cards, because we know that by next year we will NEEED a new car, ours is very slowly and surely dying a sad death (re: spent $1000 on it last warrant, dreading the next one next month)   plus getting back on track with the wedding saving.

we are terrible with groceries now, i think it's because at least one of us is home most days and we are going through more food. I also think we need to re-budget as our grocery bill was set when the girls were little and Ayja wasn't eating real food yet, now both eat like horses, so i think it needs an overhaul.

other than that i've been good........ other than buying myself an eliptical strider cos i'm a lazy sod and don't want to pay for a gym. (fairly though, i have saved up the little dots of money over from sleeping bags to pay for that so it was something for me - oh-baby helps me stay in shape, lol)

Janine I have noticed that with our kiddies too! The prices have gone up overall though too, but what we spend on groceries (and we don't buy nappies) would be way different from if we were childless!

I hope you are planning to have a new car within 6 months? (next next warrant)

If I had to spend $1000 on a car that was dying I would be ditching the car and buying a new one for $1000 lol

Totally OT, but isnt it better to take the packaging home then you know it is being recycled rather than the shop chucking it into landfill?

But do you really want to waste water to wash it & then find out that it cant be recycled..
Plastic isnt that fantastic..
"Shop" put the packaging on, so then recycling is their prob (job) If they did it well..
You only wanted/needed the product, not the packaging/frills

......anyway.....

We were on track in march to have everything paid off by october in time for new baby and were planning on getting a nice mummy van, then it all turned to crap basically, we lost baby, things broke, new houses were required along with other expenses we couldn't avoid, plus a few moments of needing some well-deserved retail therapy (spent on the girls, not me). so here we are now, trying to get back on track with paying off stuff... so a car is in there somewhere in the near-distant future. lol

I'm terrible.

Back back on track now I have spending out of the way (and no money left to spend anyway!!)

I read somewhere the other day about SFD (Spend Free Days) and how this person tries to amass a certain amount each week and either better it or maintain it.

So yeah, starting tomorrow, back to bringing lunch to school (which is my biggie) and cutting down on money spent at supermarket.

Guess that means I can't go buy the snowflake I've been dreaming about since I went to the uni cafe this morning? (though i did just eat a whole packet of reese's pieces - it's the chocolate time of month. I needed them.)

Always have a few coins lying around for chocolate!

Me and Daniel just went out for lunch as mum has Han for the day, but it was already planned before I decided to have a no-spend week. It was delicious by the way

So far no burning desire to buy stuff, tho have remembered a few things I need to pay next week like OB lunch and accomodation. Best I got put some stuff on TM so I can pay for it...

well, i was supposed to be going into town today to have a "me" day as we had an appointment that got cancelled and mikes got exams all day, the girls are in daycare (they're staying home tomorrow). lol, but ihaven't done that, so i guess i've curbed the urge and ability to spend really. although mike did just email me and say he'd meet me at the daycare at 5, so that means i better get my bum into gear and actually go have a shower. So yes, no more bumming around on the computer, might go do some retail therapy. ... lol.. does that make me the first official drop-out.

bah what was that, 1 day of not spending?! lol

ha ha I am the opposite of all you lot in here, I have $10k in the bank and I'm on a mission to spend it!

Although I do have good reason, though, its the wedding fund...

(do more nappies count as wedding expenses, though?)
