TV

How much TV, if any do your kids watch? Elle loves morning TV and will sit and eat her breakfast and potter with her toys if it is on. If it is not, she is most unhappy.

I don't like the TV being on but it does enable me to get ready for the day.    

I find Elle wants it on whenever she is home now. Obviously I don't turn it on except in the morning and sometimes evening if I'm struggling to get her to eat.

What are the rules in your house?

Playhouse Disney is my lifesaver.... its often the only way I can get a shower, breakfast and a cuppa. Char dosent't watch, but Jake loves it.

No TV... we barely watch our 14" tv, and it stays in our room - the odd time he's seen one he would much rather just turn it on and off a few times then ignore it than watch it.

Us too. It's on in the morning before 9am and also in the evening for 30 mins while I make dinner and we snuggle together watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse everynight after her shower while she drinks her bottle.

We also have wiggles DVD's which come out when necessary.

Isla LOVES 'In the Night Garden',..now that we have the dvd I have been sticking it on for her while she has her am bottle-8.30am ish,..and she dances and lays around for a while to it, while I shower etc.
Thats it,...oh and she is addcited to horse racing like her Daddy and Poppa,..they all watch it together on Sat afternoons,....please no-one calls CYPS on us!

basically none....or very little in scheme of life...

it is on but she only turns head if music comes on or tuffys advert or an ad with kids comes on!

she wont watch dvds (and i have heaps ready! argh!!!) and I wont force her...

Ive sat with her and tried to watch but she gets bored and goes off and plays...she did sit and watch hi five with daddy this am for about five mins....

but then we arent home most of the day to see any tv and dont have disney channel to encourage her....and at night she brings us books to read mostly or plays with her toys before bed.

We have Micky Mouse Club house on for breakfast, then at night The Wiggles. T never sits down to watch but loves all the music!

Hate to admit it but we're a "tv as background noise" kind of family so if I'm home all day the tv goes on in the morning and is on the whole time . I work every day part time though so it's worse on weekends we're not doing anything.

In terms of Alyssa watching it though, she's not particularly interested for long periods of time and would rather follow me around the house while I'm doing things. She will maybe watch 5-10 minutes of the go show or blues clues in the morning then chases the cat or plays with her toys while I'm getting ready for work. Even with the tv on all night, she barely acknowledges it unless certain ads with catchy music comes on and she will look up and dance.

Alize can sit still for long enough to watch tv lol. He doesnt watch any tv at all. My girls dont watch alot either.

My gils did watch alot when they were younger. Lesieli loved the Teletubbies and Barney and Mercedes was a Hi5 girl lol

As a family we tend to go for the stereo to turn on first rather than the Tv. Sometimes the first thing that gets done in the mornings is the stereo is turned on and some music gets going, tends to be a mix of hi-5 cd's and mikes beaty techno stuff in there and my pop stuff, just stuck on random and the kids don't mind what. We are more into the music side of things.

Our kids tend to be out the door early these days with me on constant mornings etc,usually they just get outta bed and into the car at the last minute to drop me off at 7am, then go back home and dad does the morning routine, however once the routine of getting dressed, hair done, brekkie, wash and teeth is over if there is time before they're due to leave it gets turned on if they choose or they can just have some time to chill out and play with their toys before it's time to leave, but mostly they don't get time for TV or just don't want it on, if Mike's having a hard time with them getting dressed etc they can usually catch Hi-5 as a treat while getting dressed and that gives him a chance to at least get miss 2 to stay still enough for him to dress her.

Depending on what time they get home sometimes they might catch a little bit of afternoon stuff, They like Shaun the sheep and Manny (?sp). Alot of the stuff after that they aren't interested in.

Days off, when i have them home yep they are allowed to watch the stuff they miss, cos they know they miss it and it's not all the time.. so Tv gets turned off once kids programmes are finished, lets me get the stuff i have left during my working week done, like vacuming etc, so that once that's all done we can spend the day together.

Mike tends to let them watch tv on weekend mornings etc when i'm at work if he needs to have a shower. And they get the video's on afternoons when we don't have stuff to do or places to go or other activities planned. We do tend to get a few 8 day hire vids out when we know that i have 2 morning shifts on the weekends cos after the obligatory park visits they can get a bit bored and having just the 1 parent on duty can get a bit tiring 2 days in a row so nice to have a bit of time to chuck a vid on and mike will usually end up sitting and watching it with them anyway.

I think the main time Tv is on if it's going to be, is during dinner time, not all the time, we don't have a dining room table at this point, the children sit at their little tables so chances are the programme caught the most is actually the nanny or it used to be friends, That's about it. I even find myself now not really able to sit and watch too much, there are only a few programmes i will actually sit and watch purposefully, cos i miss alot of them so never follow what's happening.

We used to have it going alot more, and used to have alot of videos that were absolute favourites but they're kinda outta that stage now, - if they ask for a vid generally they can have it on cos they don't ask very often.
