Topic: baby gas Posted: 20 February 2006 at 10:51am |
OKay, this may sound kinda stupid, but has anyone ever had anewborn with really bad gas....and I mean farting. Seriuosly, Taine can clear the room - his butt stinks! I thought newborns were meant to be less...offensive. Jake was never this bad. Have recently changed from feeding on demand to feeding every 3-4 hours, and it has changed his "bowel movements", from every nappy cahnge to once every one or two days. Any ideas? Also i'm on anti-biotics from the breast lump. would that do it? Am kinda hoping so as that would mean it will stop soon.....he is seriously rank! (poor little boy - mummy is so mean!)

Zaara had/has gas and when (sometimes) she is feeding she would fart away (daddy's girl)...but it does not have any smell....so I am not sure what it could be Liz Sorry!
It could be from the anti-biotics...may be you should ask your midwife/Doc.....

Xanda has a very noisy bottom but it does not smell, but when i was on anti-biotics for wound infection he had really bad wind and that did smell. The anti-biotics i was on hurt his tummy and gave him more gas than usual. What anti-biotics are you on?

Flucloxacillan(SP?) is what i had and Xanda had it before me for his cyst, so we went thru two and 1/2 weeks of Xanda with an upset tummy and alot of xtra gas.

The change in frequency of poos could just be a fluke. Han was regular then for a couple of months was only going every week or so. But by gosh, when she finally let go, boy was there a lot of it!!! (Not constipated either as it was very soft and she had no probs passing it).
So yeah, if it isn't hurting him, don't worry too much about him going once every couple of days. Just take advantage of the lack of dirty naps in the mean time!

okay...question!!
Zaara use to go 3-4 times every day when she was 0 - 2 months and now she goes once every day...some times once every couple of days, and yes it was softish and is starting to smell. Is this normal? I was a bit worried when she did not go for a one whole day...oh and she also gets a bit grumpy until she actually goes.
Any thing I am doing that is causing this?

LOL Nikki - Maya used to save hers up for a few days too, but when she exploded oh boy did she explode! Nothing could contain it!
Liz - it sure could be the antibiotics, or maybe his habits are changing and he is going to be a once-a-week pooer?

Hannah waited 10 days once. Boy that wasn't fun. I think I may have told the story before. It was at the races on Boxing Day. Completely unprepared and had to deal with her in the most un-'baby friendly' bathroom I have ever been in. Since then I have packed for Siberia every time I leave the house.

Liz - when I switched to the dairy free diet and on to soy when Joey was 8 weeks old he had REEEAAAALLLLYYY smelly farts and poos for at least 2 weeks until his system got used to it so maybe it could be the antibiotics???

Wish I'd had wipes the time Hannah exploded. I had those stupid little precious travel packs. Yeah, that might be fine for wiping your hands but trying to clean up a baby covered in poo???? No.

Arna had a tummy bug last week and ended up doing an explosion over her cot sheets, on the mattress (how I haven't worked out yet) and even on the floor!! CArpet strain remover is the best (only 1 brand I brought out of 3 worked though )
