Topic: broadband.....which ISP? Posted: 07 April 2008 at 5:48pm |
after seeing telecom's latest offer, DH has finally said i can get broadband.....
however, i've just been researching a few ISP's and so far, slingshot seem to have the best offer. but i've heard mixed things about them.
who are you with? do you also have homeline with the same ISP? how many GB's do you use?
thanks!

I am with slingshot - changed to them cos of great tolls offers and their broadband is way cheaper than telecom and at least as fast! I have heard problems with their service, but I have not had issues so far, (in fact they have been very attentive so far) - so no complaints from this house...

We have been with WorldNet for a couple of years now after being unhappy with Xtra and Slingsh*t over the years. We still have our phone lines with Telecom but I believe WorldNet also offer this service which will of course take the ADSL cost down. We are higher than average users and are on a 30GB plan.

we have an ihug phone, tolls and internet package. It's a 1GB plan but if you go over it just drops the speed rather than charging you more.
They've been good so far. We switched around Nov last year.
Edit to add: I would never go back to Telecom as they have treated us so badly in the past. First they lost us as cell phone customers, then as xtra customers and now I'm happy we're 100% telecom free.

We are with Xtra and have no problems with them (other than just before when the woman in the Phillipenes didn't know that Waiouru was in NZ ). I'm on the 3G plan and we pay $40 a month and I don't actually use the whole 3G each month and I do download a bit too.

We signed up to xtra broadband a couple of weeks ago (we've been diallup customers for ages but couldn't resist free modem and 2 months free).
I have everything through telecom (home/mobiles/internet) and have always found them really good.

I think telstraclear's cable network is fantastic. Not because i work there but because of the cable itself. Its not broadband, its cable. Which means you get a fixed speed of 4mbps if your o the 5gb plan. Thats WAYYY better than broadband. It also doesnt fluctuate(sp) so it stays the same no maatter what.
EDIT: Cos my keys dont all work properly and i miss letters out

We're with Telstra Clear for phone and broadband, and we really like their plan structure. You can choose which speed you want (ours is $36 which is a fast one I think) and then we pay $2.95 per 1GB, and it automatically tops up if you go over your 1GB. We normally use 2GB a month.

So true Kandice. We had telstraclear for awhile and it was SO fast because it was cable. Good phone/internet package too.

I started a topic similar about a month ago, I think it was called "Best ISP for broadband" or something. We ended up going with Slingshot. We have the 2GB plan which is $29.95 a month. We still have our homeline with Telecom but tolls with Slingshot. I actually just received an email today saying we had gone over our allowance (2GB) so they have added another 1Gb for $5. Going to change that though as I think our month finishes tomorrow so bit of a waste of money lol!

i would like to go to telstra kandice, but can't get it in our street which is annoying as our street is an L shape and the other part of the L gets telstra, but we can't
so far, i'm looking the the 15GB package at slingshot....$24.95/mth. i'd like to get away from telecom and they are soooo much more anyway! vodafone/ihug are more too, which is who we have our cellphones with

Oh that sux! Telstra able is really good. How come if the other part of the street has it and you dont?? Hmmm PM me your address and il have a look at it at work. Some parts of streets are too far away from the network box thing and cost heaps to extend, but if the marketer guys can sign up quite a few people in the non serve bit then they may go for it.

JacknCharli - 15gb is alot of traffic usage? Will you use that much, theres no use paying for it if you dont use it. If you dont download music, 1gb is enough as long as you dont use skype or spend all day on youtube.
1gb is heaps for just using emails, ohbaby, trade me etc, just browsing.
I was on 5gb, i download a few songs, and watch home and away every week on youtube (aussies version) and maybe 1 movie, and i may just exceed a little.
I am now on 10gb and iv downloaded 4 movies and still have 6gb left. Thats HEAPS..
If you download music, be careful with your file sharing program as they run in the background of your computer (in the toolbar by your clock) and still upload traffic and your paying for it. So either, set your uploads to 0 or make your upload folder only have a couple of songs in it.
