Topic: left handed Posted: 21 April 2008 at 5:10pm |
as i was reading a thread backwards(quite common in left handers) i was just wondering:) how many of you are left handed..are your parents(i heard theres only 25% chance even if both your parents are left handed?).. and i know bubs dont have a dominant hand sometimes till 2 but what did your children end up?
My parents and brother are right handed(and green eyed for the matter) and I'm blue eyed and left handed....so I'm a freak..but my Dad think he was mad to change from left handed and my Gran certainly was
Dh's family his Mum and sister are..but not him.. so I wonder about Ethan..not that it matters just bored and wondering randomly:)

I'm right handed blue eyes and Conor is left handed, with brown eyes.
Nyah is right handed - blue eyes
I think Cooper is going to be left handed as he seems to grab everything with his left hand. He's got blue eyes too.
The only difficulty we've had with Conor being left handed is he has broken so many can openers!

my nana is left handed and i think kobe might be, he bats etc... left handed but that could also be to do with the premature thing cos apparently a high percentage of premature babies are left handed, something to do with the side of the brain that developes first or something

I'm left handed and so is one of my sisters. The other is right handed. My mum is right handed and so is my dad but like yours, my dad was made to change as a child so was born a leftie.
DH is right handed so it will be interesting to see what Rowan ends up being.
Can openers suck! as do white boards and ring binders

I am the only left handed of four kids, dad was left handed but made to change at school. I am not sure about Lachie but sometimes I think he is a lefty as well. When I am feeding him he pinches, but only when his left hand is on top - bl**dy hurts!

I'm left handed, as is my oldest sister but both our parents are right handed. My nephews are both right handed but I think Keziah will be a lefty as it seems to be her dominant hand DF is ambidextrous but his right hand is stronger

I'm a freak. I'm the only left handed one of 4 kids, neither of my parents are lefties either.
Ella and Benjy both seem to be right handed like their Daddy too.

My mum is left handed, and so is one of my brothers - although myself and the other bro and righties. I think Alyssa will be left handed too as it seems to be the most dominant hand no matter what she's doing. Not sure when it's definite though?

All right handers in our family.
But I also was told that left handers are the result of twins and the other one died very early in pregnancy - don't know how true it is.

canopeners suck..somewhere i went had a left handed one!!:)
my2angels yeah i heard that too not sure why...i just through in the thing bout eye colour cause I'm so weird in my family:) yeah teaching in general sucks left handed esp as you say any boards!!:)
thunderwolves interesting i wonder if he will be too... seems quite a few people are lefties :) supposed to be 1 in 7 but i think we are taking over the world...the only problem i have is the wrong side of my brain is dominant(the left) so i am super good at some things and it takes forever to learn others (things on right side) but I'm not very creative..maybe thats why? (as normally lefties are 'supposed ' to be but they normally have right side brain dominated) oh and scissors as a child but i have left handed ones now.. its useful teaching kids as i make sure the left handed ones are ok:)and have what they need.
caramel.. thats interesting i wonder how that works:)
pepsi- generally its definite by 2..but lots of children have a clear preference long before that.. but lots of children switch between.
mummy becks..hmm that would be an awful lot of twins though?

I work in ECE and find it really hard to teach the kids how to hold pencils and scissors properly, my brain doesn't seem to be able to just swap things over and do the opposite, not sure if its a lefty thing, or a me thing....
Bobbie, I hear you on the can openers and white boards, also the sensor pads you use for your signature when you get your drivers license, took me about 10 goes, my hand passing over the pad kept blurring the signature..

I'm left-handed. I like that it's a little different and everyone seems to think it's sooo weird that I am. I don't get the big deal really!
My dad is a lefty, mum is right. I have 2 older sisters who are both right, then me and my younger brother are both left. Although my bro only uses his left hand for writing, everything else he does he uses his right hand, even kicks with right foot. My dad is about the same.
I'm a COMPLETE lefty - I couldn't live without my left-side of my body, it feels like it's soo much more in control and stronger than my right. I can only wink my left eye and kick with my left foot. I too find it so frustrating when writing, as my hand smears the ink across the page, and the ringbinder notebooks are such a pain!
My Dh is right-handed and so far it seems both R and G are right-handed. Who knows what Jett will be.

I am the same. DH always teases me that it's called "Right" for a reason.
Both my parents are left handed and 4 out of 5 of us kids are. We have all had right handed kids though.
I did think Miss 3 was going to be left handed but when she started drawing properly she switched hands.

I'm a leftie, none of the rest of my family are; 5 kids and parents.
I'm a twin and there's some crazy logic in my head thinking that with twins there's one of each, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with my 2

My entire family are lefties.
Mum, Dad, sister, me. All got blue eyes and had blonde hair as kids.
We're a bunch of recessives
DH's parents are lefties (his Mum is ambidexterous but prefers left) and he's a righty, so he's forever putting things in Hannah's right hand and saying (as nuttymama's DH does) "It's right for a reason, baby!"
I'm like Italiah, I do everything left (except I can't wink - that's a whole other thread). Although, I prefer to hold a wine glass in my right hand...

thunder- yeah it took me a lot of practice with the kids as well..first 3 years i did under 2's so was easier:) Italiah you cant wink with your right eye?:) wow.. my parents being right handed taught me everything backwards so 95% of the time i just look like a lefty trying to use my right hand..i bat right handed bowl left handed :) hehe.
i think i just inherited my Mum's awkwardness so that coupled with being left handed makes me look awkward:) nutty mama..thats a lot of lefties in your family..go the lefties:) !
tishy i wonder what happens with twins..of course mirror twins are one of each..and prem babies are often left handed as well:) but you dont have mirror twins and they arent identical...but they were prem..so who knows?:)
charly thats awesome:) i didnt tell Dh's friends that i was left handed for a year because they play buffalo(have to hold glass in the hand opposite to the hand you write with) :) hehe..

My nanny is and I know I shouldn't but I giggle at her coz she can't open cans with my can opener
My brother is left handed, but he has cerebral palsy with right side hemiplaegia which accounts for that, although Mum reckons Dad was probably meant to be a left hander coz he does everything left handed except write and when he was a kid they were big on beating kids out of being left handed.
