We see Dr Liang in Herne Bay. We have found him to be great. We are off to see him again on Monday.
Some of the Paed's specialise in certain areas.

Thanks heaps ladies
I'm just back from the docs & have a few ideas but not anything concrete to try on him & the only specialist the doctor could refer us to couldn't see us until mid June . Not willing to wait that long so will definitely try Dr Liang.
What building does Anil Sharma work again Bombshell?

It really depends what it's for. Allen Liang specialises in respiratory tract issues and allergies (he is brilliant btw), as do Jan Sinclair and Rohan Ameratunga (sp) and there are a heap of other paeds who all specialise in different things. Peter Nobbs was my girls general paed, he works out of Auckland Paediatric at Ascot hospital and he is really good. Then Sienna sees a separate paediatrician for her kidneys who specialises in paediatric renal surgery.

Emma I thought Ameratunga was a Neurologist or Immunologist? -not sure what his title was exactly ...either way I went to him when I was younger re: all my allergies, asthma & eczema. He was fantastic ( I went to him for YEARS)

Thanks emma ,
My doc referred us to Simon Rowley on Great South Rd who specialises in feeding issues & there are a few other things we are concerned about that are possibly hereditory issues which simon does not specialise in but he knows another paediatrician that he will refer us too.
There is a hell of alot of heart problems in our family too which we really want to have checked out. My Grandma died of heart failure when she was only 33. My mum is on heart medication & has lost 3 brothers in the past 4 yrs to heart failure. My mums youngest sister just had surgery last week - she has a hole in her heart.
It's good to hear that Peter Knobbs is good because he is the guy who checked Ethan out after he was born & we didn't go with him because we felt he was a bit cheesy - a bit like a salesman.. you know? We decided against him because we felt that all he wanted was our money.. but maybe it was a genuine smile & we were just being over sensitive at the time as first time parents. I will suggest him to dh too!

Simon Rowley is also brilliant, he is the head of neonatal medicine at Akl City Hosp. I've interviewed him a few times for various articles and he definitely knows his stuff.
Peter Nobbs did the girls birth checks too, that's how we ended up with him as their general paed and he dealt with Mercedes reflux and apnoeas, and referred Sienna on for her kidneys.
And yep Steph, Rohan is an immunologist, that's the fancy name for an allergy specialist. Neurologists specialise in brains/brain development...

Thanks emma! I'm stoked that I posted this Q now, it's difficult to know where to look or who to ask when you have no idea like me! I think we will keep Simon Rowley on the list but chase Peter Knobbs up because he was referred to us by our Ob - Paul Robinson from Origins, which is why we used him with Ethan to start with. I am also really pleased to know our doc referred us to someone like Simon Rowley too as he sounds great from what you have said Emma.
I have a few choices now - started with pretty much zilch!
thanks everryone

Just asked Mum about Dr. Liang as the name sounded familiar, I went to him as a child also & Mum highly recommends him...
I must admit I do seem to hear Ameratunga & Liang's names often and see them in print regularly (whether it be parenting magazines, newspapers or even tv)
Good luck in finding the right paed to suit you.

We went to Peter Nobbs when Oli was about 8 weeks old...he was great, even followed up with phone calls and emails to make sure we were going okay. My GP suggested either Peter or Simon, and having crossed paths with Simon in my past career I think hes great but we saw Peter at Birthcare when Oli was born and he was really good then so we ended up going to him. I would recommend him!
Good Luck with whoever you go to!

Thanks girls, I appreciate your help with this. I have discussed it further with dh & we decided that we are going to try get Peter Nobbs. We don't want to wait too long so hope he doesn't have a major waiting list!
ps) We were going to go with Simon Rowley but as it turns out he isn't available in may at all - the closest appointment I could get was 10th June so we are hoping to get a space soon with Peter Nobbs instead now.
