lucky me i have two shortened issues:)! finally got a diagnosis of IBS but look:
Foods and beverages to be avoided or minimized include red meat, oily or fatty and fried products, milk products (even when there is no lactose intolerance), solid chocolate, coffee (regular and decaffeinated), alcohol, carbonated beverages, especially those containing sorbitol or other artificial sweeteners. Care, however, should be taken to avoid adding foods to the diet to which the patient is allergic or intolerant.[63]
eww what sucky things to avoid..all the good stuff..and i cant have my fav moro gold nuts:( booo
and got the OCD sorted.. he thinks I'm not quite bad enough for medication but trying me till i want to get preg with next bub.. as the waiting list is 6 months plus for assessment for OCD:( so i feel a little weird about medicine mostly cause he said it can get worse for a week or two before getting better(as its a stimulant) .. so does anyone know anything about paroxetine?..pm me if you'd prefer..
oh and anyway my question..anyone with IBS basically...so you need to eat more fruit and vege and less crap?:) he thinks its nothing to do with csection..funny how its happened after though!:)

Some docs say IBS can be a result of gastrointestinal stress - a c-section would cause that I guess??? I have IBS, and rather than avoiding ALL those things, I got to learn which ones set me off. So no dairy products at all for me, I can eat red meat fine, fatty foods aren't toooooo bad in moderation, but I avoid the batter on fish and chips and things deep fried (and I cook my roasts in water), and spicy foods aren't good at all - but this is just for me, I think everyone is different, and everyone has different things that can set them off. So maybe rather than cutting them all out, identify which set you off. If your Moro Gold doesn't give you any side effects, then go for it, but just remember not all the time!!
This is just the way I've learnt to deal with it though - I was diagnosed 8 years ago. Oh, and I can have coffee, but generally only 1 or 2 a day (I "treat" myself to a soy mocha every day for morning tea, and have a mocha when I wake up instead of straight coffee).

ok sorry i didnt clarify i know its not black and white i just sorta wanted a general idea...when i can i will organise a dietician and sort it from there:) imagine a life with no fatty foods?:)

What you can do is just omit foods from your diet.. Keep a food diary and makes notes of how you feel when you eat those foods. I have discovered I have problems with:
fatty food, starcyes (potatoes, rice) and brown bread.
I discovered this byt using the omit and note process..
FUN FUN!!! so do not wish this on anyone! My best frined cant eat red meat cos of IBS

I was diagnosed with IBS as well. I found reducing the amount of meat and diary I eat made a big difference but mine completely disappeared when I got pregnant with Spencer and now cos of a few other things that happened since they think I might have endo and that could have been the cause all along.
I would just cut out one thing at a time and keep a food and tummy diary so you can tell what is upsetting you and go from there. You could try taking probiotics as well and drinking kiwi juice.

almost there yeah seems some things set most people off and others just some people.ive had intolerances diagnosed for a while but nothing like how its been sinc ec-section:( how do you know that you might have endo...(cause i've suddenly got pain during AF and never had that before either:( yeah when preg everything fine which was weird..though i couldnt drink milk and now have a cows milk protein allergic son...! yeha Ethan already on probiotics so i may try it.. i looked for kiwi crush the other day at countdown northlands couldnt find it:(!

Mum has IBS and haematomachrosis(sp?) which is basically that her body stores too much iron and she doesnt avoid any foods and just takes meds and has blood taken off. Every now and then she gets crook but not too often

almostthere..my doc says it cant..but they open you up adn put hot towels on your gut so I'm sure it was a little irritated..just weird it never happened like this before that..and the medicine for OCD is loxamine

You can just get kiwi juice as well as the kiwi crush. The kiwi juice is kept where the orange juice and all that is and kiwi crush is normally in the freezer section.
I don't know for sure if I have endo or not, basically I had been getting midcycle pain and painful periods neither of which I had whilst on the pill. The gp did swabs/pelvic exam and blood and I was sent for a scan to look for a cyst which came back all clear so the next step was to be referred to a gyne where the gp said they would most likely do a lap to look for endo but as we were trying to get pg he held off referring me.

It's actually quite surprising to read the amount of women who have IBS and have endo as well - the symptoms can be so remarkably similar for both. I'm one of the lucky ones with endo and IBS, but luckily have got my IBS under control because of the length of time I've had it - so I know which one is flaring up. I had a laparoscopy last July to diagnose the endo - I know about it now, my cycles are so so painful, even on the pill.

I get IBS from time to time. It is related to emotional stress for me...not diet. I think everyone is different. You might cut those things out and find you are no better but change your exercise or stress or something else and find your IBS goes away. It's trial and error unfortunately.

So if its stress then if the meds help with your OCD they might help the IBS as well

That's why I was surprised your doc diagnosed you KA and didn't send you to a spec - most people I know have had numerous scans and tests through spec's to rule out endo/pcos/inflammatory bowel/chrons etc etc.
I have the beginning stages of endo (found that out will trying to find out the cause of all my pain etc during the lap), IBS, PCOS and prostratic glandular uterine contractions (mouthful sorry  ), all of which get affected by stress. It took me a good 4 years to work out my IBS and still my body changes. Pregnancy often masks the symptoms of IBS and then it comes back with a vengeance post-partum unfortunately.
It's very sucky, but I agree the best way is to keep a food diary. Until you know exactly what triggers it you can't do much. And like I said in another post, I wouldn't cut out red meat initially unless you've been advised by your doc or you're taking mega iron supplements as that could make you even more sick.
My daddy may have chrons so we're a family with really problematic digestive systems  makes eating out a big drama most of the time.

fiona- yeah emotional stress certainly makes it worse:( funny you should say that Marisa as he said the meds often help..dunno how..maybe thats how?:)
emz-he's sent me for stool samples adn allergin testing adn thats about it..i will ask him when i see him on the 5th he just said thats what he thinks it is as i fit all the stuff?whats the last one the prostratic one?:)
weirdly i had sore stomachs before mostly due to eating tomatoes or other food im not supposed to but nothing like since PP:( starting proper eating drinking more and food diary tomorrow..

My IBS is set off by a combination of overdoing the "bad" food and stress... best thing I ever found to help it was aloe vera capsuls (or juice, but that tastes seriously manky!!). I take one every day and haven't had a serious problem with it since. Also, if you can get powdered acidophilus from the health store this helps restore the balance in your intestines which is a big part of IBS. the powdered form is heaps stronger than you'll find in any yoghurt and you just sprinkle it on your food daily...
my naturopath helped my IBS HEAPS more than any doctor ever did (their diagnosis was, just don't get stressed - um... okay!?!)

yep - all the major health shops stock it. best brand (i have found) is Lifestream cause it's taken from the right part of the plant or something
Best bit is that once you get on top of it, the aloe means you can pretty much eat what you want -- life without icecream just wasn't worth contemplating for me !! LOL !!

This may sound weird, but when you have a sore stomach (before it gets too bad) take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (from supermarket). within half an hour you should feel better. Works most times except if its really bad.
KA the prostratic glandular uterine contractions is basically I get the blood supply cut off to my uterus quite often which causes labour-like contractions. I went into prem labour at 26 weeks because of it but they managed to stop it really quickly.
