Topic: I Freaking Hate Fireworks!*%()#) Posted: 02 November 2008 at 7:26pm |
Grrr, they only went on sale today and they have been going off in our neighbourhood since 10am - and I have a feeling it won't stop until at least Sunday
The sooner they ban them for private use the better in my eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can see its going to be a long week of the boys waking up to all the bangs........
Anyone else hate them as much as I do??? (I'm sure there are some lovers here too )

I have a love-hate thing with them. I love them if they are at a reasonable hour of the night and used appropriately. I hate them when they are set off in the middle of the night or people point them at our house

Yeah I hate the fact that they are still being sold to the public. Some dick on our street has also been letting them off during the day.
The only worthwhile fireworks display I have ever seen is the one at Disneyland....all others are lame in comparison.

I agree I love and hate fireworks, we have animals so its a bit freaky for them (so sad). What has happened over the years, I remember fireworks being used safely now they are used distructively (sp??) So sad.

Yup, I hate them too... at the moment we have a place selling fireworks in front of us (we live semi industrial) and my DH had a barney with the guy the other night cause he was letting off fireworks in an uncontrolled environment.... not just one or two at a time, but about 20 or 30 different types!!! He claims he's allowed to cause he has a license... but isn't illegal to BREECH that license by letting them off outside the day??

Can't stand them (in a residential setting - all for the big public shows). We have neighbours who seem to stockpile, and for the last 4 years, we get them at Guy Fawkes, then at every saturday, then Xmas and another huge lot at New Years! The worst part is that they set them off in the shared ROW driveway (which is right outside out bedroom window).
With Natalie here now, we were starting to worry about what this year was going to be like - but when we were talking to the neighbours, they said they wouldn't be doing them this year at their house purely because we have a little bub in the house! They are really lovely people, just quite into their celebrations!
Anyway, all the other neighbours will be setting off enough to make up for them (infact I can hear them already!)

I love hate them too.
They are so pretty to watch and are good if at a decent time and being used safely.
BUT i hate them if they are being used stupidly and especially when they are used against animals.
We have a newish puppy and she gets scared very easily (little wuss that she is ) so im dreading to see her hiding in a corner with all the bangs when they start here.

I hate them. I have a child who cannot sleep...they are bound to keep me awake and we have one cat awol and probably hiding under the house and another who won't budge from the living. So far the bunnies seem ok if on high alert.
Sooner they are banned for private use the better.

Okay confession time: I am scared of them after a double happy went off a long time before I thought it would when I was about 12. I was "thrown" across the lawn... okay maybe I was frightened and fell over but that doesn't sound anywhere near as dramatic.

I don't like them being onsale to every Tom, Dick and Harry. I'm sure the majority of people are responsible and many are probably considerate too (like your neighbours blondy, that's really sweet) but I just don't think they're worth it when you consider how much property gets damaged around guy fawkes and worse how many animals are abused
I'm all for the public shows though and I don't mind the little sparklers.

Sparklers are OK when being used properly, although I've heard that there is such a thing as sparkler bombs??? (No idea how loud and explosive they'd be, but the word 'bomb' goes to suggest it's not just for the sake of being pretty and colourful ....
My boy has only JUST fallen asleep, darn neighbours (well, not neighbours but people in close proximity to our house) letting them off every 5 mins since the suns gone down!!!!
The sooner they ban them, the better - as mentioned above!

HATE THEM! Don't mind public shows but I really don't like that people can buy them for private use.

I've been sodding weary of them for about 10 years now since my ex husband got hit in the face after a Roman candle shot out sideways instead of up!!!

I am so glad that we have a ban here. If you a caught letting them off any other night than the 5th you will have the MP's knocking on your door (something I wouldn't want at all).

I love them
But.... we did have the firetrucks across the road last night as someone had set fire to the trees at the park.. I *assume* with fireworks but we ony got home at 1am so wouldn't know, I just saw a guy there on his phone so asked him if he'd called it in, he said he had so I went inside and went to sleep and let him deal with it

I hate them. The ones for public sale are just hopeless - a public display is much better.
I grew up in England and it is much better having it there as it is dark by 4pm so you can go to a display at 6pm and still have the kids in bed at a reasonable hour!! Also it is so freeking cold that the bonfire is great too!!
