Topic: Labour?/ Not labour? Posted: 16 May 2009 at 12:58pm |
Ok so baby was due yesterday/today.... I am definately getting a lot more tightening- quite sore tightenings- and baby has gone a lot quieter today than previously, although I can still feel her moving. These pains are coming more often and seem to affect my whole bump, although lower down more as well now. Also had a watery leak this morning that ran down my leg, but as DF and I had ahem you know what, I wondered if that was something else (TMI...IYKWIM?! )....OMG the things we talk about on here! lol. That hasn't happened to me before either which is why I wondered hmmmm. But I haven't lost my 'plug' (that I know of) so perhaps it was nothing important.
I guess time will tell if thse are real contractions starting? I thought I'd have to have a really sore back (it's mildly sore) and lots of hard out period type cramps to be considered in labour? My mw is off call for the weekend (typical) and I'm doing ok, not in awful pain or anything so I don't want to call DF back home if I can help it. Shall I just tally ho and wait and see? My mw said last week that even though I'm due today, she didn't think I'd give birth this weekend cos I didn't look 'desperate' enough lol...but I think that's not ness a great indicator...is it?!

Gosh I thought it would be easy to give you an opinion but it is actually so hard to remember back 2yrs!! I would think that the watery leak was more like your waters than anything else. My waters broke and contractions started an hour later, I don't remember losing the 'plug'
How long after "relations" did you get the tightening etc? I only just learnt from SIL who was going to be induced the other day that the gel they use to induce you is very similar to semen.
Personally I would call the back up mw and have a chat to her about what it happening and see what she thinks

Hi Linzy
I guess it was about 30-40 minutes after BD that I had the leak...and it didn't look like you-know-what (sorry TMI)... I popped a pad in after I had a shower and it seems pretty damp and I feel quite 'wet' but I've had this before and the Dr's couldn't ascertain whether it was my waters or not... ..I'm still getting quite uncomfortable tighteings too although there doesn't seem to be any pattern.
I thought I would just 'kno'w absolutely that I was going into labour! I totally don't so assume I'm not lol.

lol don't be so sure, I was very doubtful of whether or not I was in labour when it came to it.
Likely all those tightenings are thinning your cervix and maybe starting to dilate it a bit

So it's possible things *are* starting then? The tightenings are definately getting stronger, not weaker. But they don't hav me doubled over or anything- althougha couple have been breath-taking! There's no pattern I can see and they're more noticable if I get up and move around. It's no biggie as obviously baby is gonna come out at some point lol but DF is away for the day and Mum is a good 1.5 hour drive away and both need to be at the birth..just don't know when to call them is all! Don't want to disturb people if it's another false alarm

Maybe let them know that things are starting to move in the right direction so it is not a complete shock when you decide that they need to come NOW . You may find that you mum would like to come sooner rather than later if she is a fare way away.
All the best - it sounds like things are starting to happen. Not much help - my 2 are all a blur in the past now!!

All the tightenings and stuff will be doing something down there even if only a little bit. My belly would go super hard.
If it were me I'd just wait and see if they develop any pattern at all and then let them know. We let MIL know (cos she had to dog sit) when I started getting alot of tightenings etc just so they knew it could be soon or could be a couple of days away but at least they were prepared

I went mad at DH 5am the morning I gave birth to Keira for ringing the midwife. I had had no waters breaking, no back ache, no plug... just a really dull ache in the lower belly. Any way she was born 2 hours later
I didnt think I noticed a pattern but DH was noting me complain more every 3 minutes. I dont ever remember back pain or loosing my plug at all.
It is so true that sometimes you cant tell if its real labour untill you are right into it.
Dont worry about disturbing people if its a false alarm, better to be safe than sorry. Them getting stronger sounds ike a good sign and the laky waters too.
I would say you body is definately getting itself very ready but then I couldnt tell you if that will mean the baby arrives today or next week.
Sorry not much help but wishing you all the best (and congratulations on the engagement!!)

Oooh how exctiing, it sounds like your body is well and truly getting itself ready...trouble is there is no way of knowing whether it means today/tonight or in the next day or two!
Have you rung your backup MW yet to check whether it could be your waters?? It sounds like it to me...but I no expert!
I would perhaps give your Mum a call just so it isnt a complete surprise if you do end up calling her tonight...at least she can make sure her car is full up and a bag is packed!
Best of luck!

Thanks everyone! Am still quite sore on my bump and in my back so think I'll call Mum at least and let her know to get her bag ready...although I think it's been ready for the last 2 weeks lol. Am feeling out of sorts and grumpy with life and DF so perhaps that's another sign things are moving. Will try and get some rest and see if that makes things slow down cos if it doesn't then I think it might be the real thing..... gulp.

I've heard that your waters smell can smell like sperm so mw's suggest that if you have a pad in already to sniff it. Obviously if thats not after you've just had some fun

Hmmm funny you say that....eeewww lol
Things are getting more oowwee here...tightenings more regular but no real pain or anything. so I guess this could go on for days.... Still, we're sending the stepkids off to their Nana's for the night just incase..and I shall ring Mum soon and put her on standby.
Thanks for all the good wishes and advice...I so hope this is it!

i have had tightenings for nearly a month and according to monitors been in labour for a week
when your waters break its not always a big gush.....my firend said hers was like busting for the toilet a few times......... with my first i had cramps all day but put it aside as all pregs it was bad...........then at 9.30 i was in unbelievable pain but just thought i had done something so waited on 3rd time i timed it and did that another 3 times and found out i was 3min apart..............you should still be able to feel 10 kicks if you cant ring someone as there may not be enough liquid around baby (you can tell i just went to hospital appoint ) i would wait till you cant handle the pain as it could be intence BH as mine are this time....and there is nothing worse then getting there and finding out your gonna have a longggggggggggg wait. good luck hun but i hope i get there b4 you haha

Update (just a cut and paste from the May thread) :
had painful contractions all night, esp between 3-5am and we all thought well this is it! But then they eased off and by the time I got the guts to call my relief mw (I hate disturbing people lol), it was about 9.30am.
So we meet at hospital and she monitors me and bubs (who is happy as larry in there...come UP a bit grrrrr and turned slightly posterio...grrrr again), then does a rather unpleasant internal to check if I've started dilating yet. The short answer is no but my cervix is soft and thinning (sounds like an old person haha) I needed to use gas by this stage as it wax a *very* internal' internal IYKWIM? plus I was still having some contractions, but pleased I got to try the entonox. It was great
Anyway, mw advises that baby could come tonight...or in the next day or so..but hopefully she *is* coming and we won't make that appointment on Thursday for scans etc. I'm hoping baby comes tonight because ....*she said whispering*: I like my relief mw more than my regular one...lol

Nothing as yet ladies...nada, ZIP.
Have posted all details on the May thread. Perhaps I am not having a baby giraffe after all, more like a baby elephant...don't they gestate for like 18 months? lol
