Has anyone used these and were they helpful?

They seem to be quite "fashionable" at the moment, and I'm just wondering if they really make a difference.

I was given one for my baby by a friend who bought 1 (get 1 free) off the internet. The Baltic Amber beads are a homeopathic remedy so its one of those grey areas when it comes to pain relief. Apparently people having been using amber for centuries?
Jaye got his first four teeth (all at once!) without a fuss. Its a different story with the two that are coming down now but he's still pretty good. Can't really put it down to the necklace though.
He wears his necklace every day because I will give anything a go, its natural, and it also looks pretty cute!

I have one and DS has just cut his first two teeth, I didn't notice them really, he has fussy days, but I think babies have fussy days.

He always has bright bright red cheeks, so people think he is teething, but he is perfectly happy.

I don't take the necklace off - I have no idea if it works or not, but so far comparing in my ante natal group those wearing them against those not, those who do seem to be getting up for more random screaming.

DS has worn one since he was 3 months.

I have definitely noticed a decrease in dribbling and random grizzlings.

I take it off at night, maybe I will start to leave it on and see if he sleeps better.

I used to have one and noticed no difference at all, it broke after about three weeks and I didn't bother buying a replacement, didn't seem worth it to me. A lot of people seem to have more luck with them than we did though! Lauren's generally very happy, and seems to have a high pain/tolerance threshold, so maybe thats why it didn't seem to help.

You have to make sure you get the genuine stuff.

There is a test that you can put the amber through.

Shellandbella, there are tons on trademe.

Jezsika apparently the lighter ones contain more succinic acid. I don't know if that makes them more effective though, maybe a little bit.

do you have to worry about baby getting tangled up in the necklace and choking on it/strangling himself? just wondering....

I got mine from trademe - for $24.50 and its awesome!

After having 3-4 bad nights of Lily waking up 3-4 times a night with her first tooth - her second came through with no problems - just red cheeks! I only used bonjela once with her 2nd tooth!

She doesn't dribble and I'm hoping that the necklace works just as well for the rest of her teeth!

She wears it 24/7!

I totally recommend them!

The clasp is designed to pop apart if the necklace is pulled tight

^^ thats good to know. Cause I would worry about leaving it on at night.

DD was fine when teething, she only really went off eating but wasn't grizzly or anything. Hoping for the same this time.

How do you know you're getting the real thing if you purchase from Trademe?

I have been doing some research. There is a trader called Stefi which has them on Trademe.

The lighter colour ie lemon one has more of the acid so should work better than the darker ones.

When you get it heat up a pin & press this into it, should let off a woody smell. Wiki pedia has it all on there if you google Baltic Amber.

Amber shouldn't feel cold when you touch it like plastic would.

On reading this conversation, I have ordered some amber teething beads frm steffi on TM. My youngest has terrible teething rash on cheeks and chest and NOTHING helps to ease it. I will take before and hopefully some impressive after photos and post (when I learn how!)

Would be interested to know how long before they are effective from anyone who has used them with good results
