Topic: Tummy Sizes Posted: 01 June 2006 at 6:29pm |
I am 28 weeks and have been told by a lot of people that i am small for my date.
I talked to the midwife and she said not to worry because everything is sizing up right inside and that i am quite a bit longer in my torso (tummy area) than other people. But i am just not sure i am not worried but its not the nicest thing to be told.
What are other people like?

I'm pretty small and I'm only 26 weeks... It's only been the past few weeks that you can notice I'm pregnant. Not many stretch marks... but I'm touching wood.
We'll see how much bigger I get and how many more stretch marks I get.

I have a friend who is tall, and long in the torso area as well, and even at nine months pregnant, she was smaller than my 5 months self. She has big bubbas, all over 9lbs. You will find it easier and less awkward to get around, bend over, etc, than "dumpier" folk like myself, who was fondly known as "hindenburg" by DH...

I have the opposite problem! I am quite small and have had a very obvious baby bump since I was 13 weeks. By the time I was 17 weeks I was seriously contemplating telling the next person that asked, that I was 6 months preg, cos the ammount of people that told me there must be something wrong with me or baby cos I was so big, was really starting to piss me off! I was getting worried too,...but like u my midwife says its fine- People and babies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes!

Hey Kellz, I get that from people too....particuarly one annoying person at my work who I'm sure we are all now familiar with, who always tells me I'm having a 10pounder and will have to have a c-section and how huge my bump is.....just because she barely looked pregnant as she gave birth. *sigh*
People are all different sizes so I wouldn't stress about it at all!

If there was anything about Baby that influences your size to worry about, it would have come out at your 20 week scan... and you would have heard about it by now! The only reliable comparison is to your body last time... and as this is your first baby that doesn't quite work yet, but now you can file this memory away for next time when you can say "I'm just the right size for this stage in my pregnancy" with the authority of experience!
I went to my scan last week thinking I was a little small for nearly 20 weeks as I have 2 previous pregnancies of my own to compare my bump to... turns out my dates were a month out and I was nearly 16 weeks instead!

I get really big really quickly in fact with Kobe I stopped going to my regular petrol station for a while cos they kept saying I looked like I was due any time and I felt so bad I said yes and then just didnt go back until I had him. I think Ive been telling people Im due in a few weeks for about the last 3 months. I would much rather be smaller than bigger thats for sure.

LOL - I still look 10 or 12 months pregnant from the last pregnancy - this one just makes me look like I've been pregnant for the last two years....hold on, I have been pregnant for 14 months of the last two years.....

If this is your first then it takes a lot for people to show. it all depends on your build, your body proportions and also your tummy muscles.. if you have good ones then they hold that baby tummy pretty tight until it gets too big. I used to worry about it with Paris, even my midwife said that she'd only be about 5 pound or just over, when i had 11 weeks to go, there were still people that were surprised to learn that i was preggers, let alone that i had only 11 weeks to go, i was pretty tiny by most people's standards.
The way i see it, there are usually two types of preggies on here, the ones who post saying "OH, MY, GOD!!! I'm growing huge so quickly!! argh!" and then theres the littlies, who post their worries about not showing, not being big enough, and have all of us reassure them that very soon, they will be feeling huge and uncomfy and thinking they should have kept their mouth closed! lol.
Actually i vaguely remember Roksana posting the same thing, and I'm sure that she can tell you,.. she soon popped out.
Your shape is fine for you, and as long as your midwife says that baby is fine and growing in all the right ways then be happy, that you don't have to go out and buy maternity stuff, you can probably get away with really baggy stuff, that's a size or so bigger, from all your favourite stores. that's gotta be a plus.
Paris ended up being a nice healthy chubby 7lb 3 oz, which for me and mike's builds, was a good size.
Second time around, i was much bigger, much much quicker.. and hello, Miss Ayja was a tiny wee dot and she still is... tummy size doesn't mean baby size.

I find that my tummy is also quite big for nearly 5 months compared to other people that I have seen but I put it down to the fact that I was always quite small and never had a tummy and small waist plus a sway back! I will probably get comments in the next month or 2 saying "when is baby due" when I still have ages to go!

Dontcha just love all those people that suddenly become "midwives" when you announce your pregnancy Yes - even the 7 men I work with and only 2 of those 7 have kids!

I am not big for my stage I dont think - I mean depending on what I wear some poeple who dont know me well dont even pick up I am pregnant! I was quite worried about it but had a good chat with my midwife and she said that because I am taller than average I will take much longer to show, and she also said that until she tells me something is wrong I musnt stress - so thats what I am doing. All the scans have said bubs is right on track - so now when I get the "˙ou are quite small" commments (and I do get them at least a few times a week) I just brush it off and scoff at the person talkign and say "wow i didnt know you were a midwife ha ha ha!" and taht usually shuts them up!

I am tall and have a very long torso so lots of room for bubs in there as well.
I am carrying totally different to my first ...more all out the front but low. Im not too big tho.
Where are with Paige I was nice rounded and put on a bit of weight on my hips...which I have not this time.

I am huge. My dad described it as 'monstrous'. But I am carrying very differently to with Maya - all out in front this time, whereas with her I just got fat in general. But I'm not much to compare to as a)I had a fat gut to start with b) I'm having twins and c)Maya was giant at birth which explained why I was so giant

when i was pregnant with ella i was tiny to begin with and took ages to show. i put on lots of weight but everyone still kept telling me how little i was and predicted a boy because of the way i was carrying.
this time i got big fast but have put on hardly any weight and now i have people telling me i look like i'm due anyday despite having a couple of months to go. and i'm carrying exactly the same as i was with ella!

Comments on bumps drive me insane!!!!
I remember told "Oh, you are carrying really low" "Oh, you are carrying really high" "Oh, your bump is so small" "Oh, your bump is so big" - In the end just nodded and smiled.
People should be limited to being able to say "Your bump is beautiful" (and maybe a few variations on that theme - but you get where I'm going )
