I'm no help....we're using cloth (fuzzi bunz) but we do have a small stash of huggies and treasures for the first week or so while we settle in and in case of emergancies.

Huggies newborn were good...but we use Treasures Ultra now. They're great - very absorbent, hardly ever leak, no issues with nappy rash - and I'm hooked on collecting the treasures club points off the side which I put towards toys or more nappies....

Umm I have Huggies and Babylove new born nappies- but mostly flat cloth nappies.
I'm not sure YET what is the best to use- but I'll give any of them a go. I'd love to get some of them Snazzipant things yous get in NZ- they not only look awesome but I think would be handy to have.

Frantic Huggies are so the best for new borns. Once Andrew was older we started putting him in Treasures Giggles during the day and Huggies at night. Now it's still Huggies at night and either giggles or ultras during the day depending on the price of nappies. I have already started buying nappies for the next one and brought giggles as they have made them more absorbant. You will work out which ones you like, as me and my friend swear by Huggies yet someone else I know can't stand them. I would buy a mixture and see what ones suit you.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

huggies all the way here - we tried others but found they werent as absorbant as huggies.
we also will be going cloth, but for when we are out and about and at night time, will use huggies.

I found huggies the best for newborns too. I'm on giggles now that Ella is bigger but have a box of huggies waiting for new bubba.

Hi Mrs Frantic,
We are also in the process of looking to buy some nappies. I was recommended a good website - www.nappiesdirect.co.nz and they offer really good deals on bulk nappies so we will probably get most of our stuff from that

I never liked Huggies much coz Maya was quite long/tall and the Huggies seem to be cut shorter so never fit her as well. She was a Treasures Ultra girl all the way at night time, and we used flat cloths during the day with the Johnsons liners.

I have started stocking up for the twins, I have a couple of packs of Huggies (free from Huggies - perks of the job!) but mostly Treasures Giggles and Ultra. I prefer the Huggies wipes to any other brand tho.

BTW our local Countdown had the Treasures Ultra bulk packs on special for $16 when I was there yesterday, not sure if it's all Countdowns, but worth a look.

Dammit wrote a big reply and it logged me out!!

I was saying that I love huggies the best. I bought loads of treasures before Zaara was born and it leaked 80% of the time so I switched to huggies and I think they are great. Even if the nappy is full, Zaara stays dry and she never had nappy rash.

Keep an eye for specials. you could buy a pack of 109 new born nappies for $37 - $38 at times.

Oh and I agree with Emma about the size issue....Zaara is only 8 months old and she is on Toddler, and it is getting smallish on her.....

Treasures worked best for us. Never really had much luck with huggies, they didn't fit properly. I think if you buy a few of each and work out what works best for your bub you'll be sweet.

I love the bradn from the baby factory. They fit little taine really well, and seemed to cope with Jake's excess at night. They were cheap and you get rewards points - buy 10, get a pack free.
Now we are using fuzzis on Taine and dry-nites on Jake. Dry-nites are from www.nappyhouse.com. I get them delivered in bulk as it works out heaps cheaper.
Be careful with baby wipes. some of the cheaper ones are so crappy, you end up going through them a lot faster. I used a budget brtand from pak n save - about $2.98, and came in either blue or pink. can't remember the name

go to the websites as often they'll give you trial nappies.

Weve always used Huggies for Bay, right up until undies
Every other nappy seemed to leak!!!! but like a few other ladies have said...huggies is more absorbent and even when they are full he still stayed dry and rash free Iv only ever used huggies and hes never had a rash in his life
I swear by huggies nappies and wipes. Iv had this discussion with a few of my friends that have girls and they said that huggies just didnt do the trick for them because they are shorter and girls tend to pee out the top! (apparently!?) and boys tend to pee out the side (which ever direction his doodley was pointing) and huggies is made to stop leakage from the sides.
Wow that was a novel!!! sorry

Ok so question - those of you using cloth nappies - how often do you need to wash them etc - eg do a load etc...or do you send out to that service? Mum wants me to use real ones, DH wants me to use the service - Me I hate the thought of having to clean real ones when you can just toss disposables. I will welcome discussion on this as Im being pressured two vs one....BTW I intend to return to work after 3 months also so poss nanny / daycare issues with nappies.

We use Treasure Ultra's...produced (which I presume means made) in NZ with local and imported materials. Figured it was close enough to buying NZ made.

A few months back I think Close up did a test on Nappies to see what kind was the most absorbant and Treasure Ultras got the top marks (this was quite a while ago so hope I've remembered right).

We've never had problems with nappy rash. I was at Countdown the other day and they had Treasure Ultra's on sale for $8.99 per pack but it amazed me how many people were buying nappies that weren't on special....in some cases payinmg $5 per packet more. I always go to the supermarket with the cheapest nappies and stock up (hate it when Countdown limit you to 3 packets!)
