Topic: OMG Too helpful!! Posted: 27 July 2006 at 5:19pm |
I was just in the supermarket grabbing a few treats for dinner and I was accosted by the most pushy good samaritan ever!
Ella was getting a bit niggly so I picked her up and was waddling around with her on my hip and this woman I don't know rushes over and tries to grab her off me saying "Oh I remember what it was like at your stage of pregnancy, how hard it is to manage with a toddler".
Ella was so upset and clinging to me for dear life, as I tried to explain that I was fine and didn't need her to carry her for me.
She kept saying "let me carry her for a bit, I'll keep her happy while you get what you need"
In the end I decided to leave the rest of my shopping and run away from her, she just wouldn't give up!
I don't think she was trying to do anything except help me, but it was all a bit odd. Who tries to grab a stranger's kid, even when they trying to help them?

That is really off. She should have offered to get you a trolly to sit her in or maybe take some of your shopping I would have done the samething talk about being a wee bit over the top.

Oooh I'd be sh*tting myself thinking she's going to run off with poor little Ella. I'd be hanging on for dear life to! Poor little chicken. How random was that woman haha. Scary.. but all you can do now is just be careful and keep an eye out for people like that and laugh. You should've asked if she could pay for your shopping hahahah. Just kidding.

I saw a preggo chick struggling with a toddler the other day (the toddler was throwing an absolute wobbly... obviously close to dinner time!) I reeeeeally wanted to help her too but didn't want to intrude... while I wish I had offered to help in some way, I would never ever do something like that woman did!!!

Gosh! How scary! I don't blame Ella for clinging to you!
Like Deb said, getting you a trolley or offering to carry some of your groceries would be far better!

Far out Mel - how'd you resist the temptation to bop her one??? (you could have blamed hormones for it... that should stand up in court, shouldn't it?!?). Yeah, taking you a trolley would have been so much more helpful and less creepy! But I like your idea even better, Stevie - he he he.

In Saudi because Zac has blonde hair and blue eyes they come up if you are holding him and take him off you and give him lots of kisses. You literally don't get a chance to say no they are that quick! We were at the hospital last week and some of the receptionists asked if they could take photo's of him with their phones. It will be worse once Zac is walking as I've been out with friends and they come and pick the child up if they are walking and starting giving them kisses.

Lol Stevie, darn it, why don't I ever think of things like that at the time!? I'll keep that in mind in case I ever come across her again!
Eek Kim, does it ever get to you having all these strangers kissing your baby? I'd be so bothered by that!

It's hard to describe caraMel as the Saudi's just love kids - the first few times it bothered me but now I'm use to it. The average Saudi family has 7 kids!!!! Zac just loves going to the hospital as he gets so much attention. I thought he would be scarded of the ladies as they are all covered up and you only see their eyes but I supposed he's use to it having been born here.

My aunt lived in Saudi for a couple of years while her husband worked over there... as my cousins are half Asian they got quite a lot of attention whenever they went out... Raewyn said the women were constantly wanting to hold the youngest when he was little!

I remember when we were in Japan, we were standing at the train station and this lady come up to us and said hello (all in japanese) and then grabbed Jake and talked to us for a while. Then she took some photos of us altogether and left. After she left Is aid to Lewis; "oh was she one of your students?" he looked me and said "you mean, you didn't know her?" turns out neither of us knew who she was . Just a random nutter.
and Japanese and Thai both LOVE foreign kids. Thats how Jake got his modelling "work"

My brothers are both blonde and blue eyed an got mauled when we went to Hong Kong and China. One of the guys at the hotel told us that blonde hair is considered lucky, I guess because years ago before tourism was big they wouldn't have seen vey many blondies!
