Topic: Hospital stay Posted: 11 May 2007 at 1:33pm |
So last night things got worse, and Alize was admitted to hosp for oxygen therapy as his oxygen satuation levels were too low, and because he started vomiting and having diarrhoea, he was getting dehydrated. They were wanting to put a nasal gastric tube up his nose to feed him thru, but I said I'd rather feed him as much as I can and see how he goes before putting him thru that. Once he had some oxygen he stopped having diarrhoea, vomiting and kept his feeds down. They said he was only getting the d & v because of the stress of trying to breathe. He slept from 1am onwards but the nurse kept coming in every 2hrs for me to get him up and feed him. It was just like a dream feed, he actually never woke up. This morning her perked up and his oxygen sats were good so I was allow to come home under homecare but have to go straight back if he becomes worse again and we have to go back in tomorrow for an assessment and if all is going well we will be discharged on Sunday. I have never been in hosp with a sick baby since Lesieli was little and it is sooo scary!!!! Im glad to be home.

Hi Kels. Jake also had the oxygen over New Year when he had a "virus" (doctor's code for "no idea") and it took a lot out of him, BUT he was MUCH better within a week. Hopefully Alize will be the same. I hate the hospitals though!

Hugs Keli, what an awful night! I hope wee Alize continues to improve over the next day or so. That's about the only good thing with a sick baby - they bounce back quickly. Much faster than a sick man

Thanks guys!!! He has been mainly sleeping since we got home. Ive made him a bed up in the lounge, I'd rather have him close to me. He's still breathing rather loud (sounding like Darth Vadar), alot better than last night tho.
Emma lol, I'd say. You should see these rough as guts, big burly guys or stanched teenage boys come into the surgery when I was working to get a blood test, you would think I was about to hack their arm off LOL I swear a few have been shaking and one even went dizzy (nearly passed out)

Oh Kellz, that sounds so scary. And you must be exhausted, you poor thing! I hope he keeps up his recovery well and is back to his normal self really soon.
Far out you'll deserve a good mothers day treat tomorrow! I hope someone takes good care of you.

Alize is slowing getting better. He slept all night which is a sign that he must be getting better. We were up earlier and he is still quiet wheezy but I guess now he sounds worse than he is. He is bfeeding much better now and not a hint of blue around his lips. We are off the hosp again today as the paediatrician wants to assess him again and if all is well we will be discharged from their care.
