Topic: One thing to change Posted: 22 July 2010 at 12:00pm |
I've been thinking a lot lately about little changes I wanna make in my life - changes that are reasonably small, but will make a big difference to how things run in our house and how I feel. Things like.....
- be in bed by 1Opm
- drink more water
- eat more fruit\veges for snacks
- make all the beds first thing in the morning
- put washing away in drawers when it's folded, instead of leaving it on the dining room table
- don't go on the comp til morning chores are done
- read my bible more often
- have one night a week TV\Internet free and spend time playing board games or Wii with DH instead
- keep the kitchen bench clear at all times
- get some exercise
So this week I've decided to work on bed time... I've been getting to bed way too late for me, 11pm ish, and when I have a wee baby who wakes up several times a night -last night I lost count after 8- I really can't handle it!
I figured I needed some steps on 'how' I was gonna achieve this goal... blimmin teacher in me. So here's my plan of action
1. put the nappies on to wash at dinner time instead of later, so I can hang them out earlier
2. ask DH to be stern with me and make me go to bed lol
3. get off the comp by 9.3Opm at the very latest
Anyone else want to join me? What one thing will you change this week?

Good idea...! I would love it if we could all be in bed by 10pm here, so far (6 of us living here) 4 of us are in bed by 10, dp and I, my mum and baby. But my grandparents don't go to bed until... 5AM! And they make so much noise too! They've got their day and night mixed since they retired. *rolls eyes*
Mine is Drink more water
Spend less on groceries (already achieved this last week!)
Not forget about the washing, I'll often put a load on and it'll stop and I'll forget about it until the next day or later on... Ooops!
Save more money...!
This week I am going to work on the drinking more water one...
Plan of action is to have one with every day time BF and every meal, with Lily still feeding 2 hourly it shouldn't be a problem!

I've been working ont his too, moving my bum more and eating more vege and saving money on groceries.
You will feel loads better for not going to bed late! DH always stays up later and feels like sh*t, before I got preg I was in bed at 930, asleep at 10 (usually read in between) and I was always refreshed.

Yep I definitely have things I needa change...especially since MIL and 2 SILs will be living with us...and MIL keeps a clean and tidy house...not that we aren't clean and tidy...just sometimes the washing or dishes pile up lol. So at the mo we're in the throws of packing..but at the new house I will not let washing pile up...and will make sure all my lil fams dishes are washed and put away straight after they're used (minus meals that use lots of dishes...since I might as well utilise the dish washer lol)...make beds first thing in the morning....that'll do for now. I'm already working on the water thing.

I'm with you on the bed earlier! I went to bed at 11 pm last night which was early for me. I've been waiting up for C to have his last feed but that cross fingers is stopping.
I'm going to be in bed by 10.30pm. There are programs I like on at 9.30 so it sucks if I went to bed earlier & we're a one TV family so can't watch in bed.

It must be in the air .. I was just thinking I need to "change" in the following ways ..
- Cleanse, Tone & Moisturise twice a day
- Have my hair cut and coloured once every six weeks
- Keep eye brows tidy!
and my big two big one after the week of receiving private messages from petty people is ...
- Spend more time on the floor with the kids and less time online when I am at home
- Don't sweat the small stuff

I need to go back into Chocolate Rehab.. I managed 3 weeks the last time I stopped eating it.. and I want to last longer this time around.
I'm pretty good with my bed times.. never stay up later than 1030pm unless I'm reading a book I can't put down...
I want to get Cooper over his fear of the beach.. maybe starting one day going and standing on the sand and slowly getting him to walk on it!
Hmmm this has got me thinking!

Oooh yes I need to do this too.
1. Don't leave my entire week's washing until Sunday evening, when I then have to put an entire load through the drier. If I wash it earlier in the day (or SATURDAY, shock horror) I can save power and hang it up.
2. Start moisturising all of me every day - or by the time this pregnancy is over I'm going to resemble a tiger
3. Start planning dinners in advance so that by the time I'm starving I'm not tempted to go get takeaways.
4. Stop sitting on FB and OB as soon as I get home from work every day - do the chores THEN go online.
5. Start getting to bed earlier! I was really good at this for a while then DP came along!

ooh I like this !
Just reading it made me think about what I need to change too
Mine is
Be in bed before 11
Drink a lot more water
Eat a lot more fruit and vegies
stop having so many takeaways
only go on the computer once morning chores are done
do the dishes after eating instead of letting them pile up
fold and put away the washing when it comes off the line
now to attempt them .....

oh my list is probably huge.
drink more water
eat less bread
get out of bed earlier - 6.30/7 i am thinking
do some exercise
make the beds in the morning
make and keep a cleaning schedule
unpack some boxes and bags every day
stop being lazy (haha thats very general and all encompassing)
I think i need to get the morning one sorted first. The kids were nearly late this morning cause i slept in.
I have lately though accomplished keeping my couch clear of washing that needs to be folded. Since we have moved i have kept it away from couch and we have had 2 couches to sit on in the lounge.

I think my biggest problem is getting enough sleep too. I figure if I am not as tired everything should be a whole lot easier to manage.
For me I like to be in bed and TV off by 10:30, the earlier I get to bed the more likely I am to turn the TV off at 10:30.
And getting out of bed by 7:30. It should be easier when I am going to bed earlier but on these cold mornings it is just so tempting to stay where its warm. Makes mornings totally hectic and not a good start to the whole day.

I started one for the month and I have stuck to it all but 1 day and that is to eat at least 2 piece of fruit a day. I am liking it and going to stick to it for a long time now.
The next thing I need to work on is brushing my teeth at night - I suck at it big time, can do the teeth in the morning cos I do it in the shower.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Oh great thread....my list would/will be huge and include everything that everyone else has mentioned. Bad habits are so hard to break. But this has inspired to write up a list and stick it on my fridge or on my mirror or something so that I am reminded on a daily basis.

Oh and I feel better now that I growl myself for not flossing every night knowing that some don't even brush their teeth. My DH would not let me in the bed if I hadn't he is a dental hygiene freak!

fantastic idea !
i have far too many....
*be in bed by 10.30
*get up at 7 instead of 7.30 and then rushing around for 10 minutes before i leave the house
*prepare dinners in advance (i was doing well for a couple of weeks then slipped again)
*stop leaving clean washing on the couch for the cat to nest in
*put on one load of washing every 2 days so i dont spend all weekend doing it
*drink more water i.e a glass an hour
*eat more fruit and vege
*vacuum every week or more
*keep our new bathroom clean
*stop spending so much money on food
*less takeaways
eta: *floss more often! (thanks beloved!)
