Topic: Grrr at kindy shared lunches Posted: 20 September 2007 at 5:02pm |
I dragged my tired butt down to the kindy for the end of term shared lunch...and it is the last time i will be doing that.
i was sooo angry at the behaviour of some of the adults there. Pushy ladies (of a certain race who seem to think it is their right) who dont even let my child have a look in at the table let alone me, practically pushing me out of the way and not saying a word at all....grrrr and then there are the people who fill their plates to overfowing only to not eat anything on it and take them home later (there were enough left overs later for people who wanted to take a plate). All the "best" food was gone in seconds and it was the adults not the kids who were the vultures. I was shocked and disgusted and dont want my kids thinking that kind of behaviour is acceptable.
i was not in the mood for that kind of free for all over a lunch table and had to contain myself from a) talking harshly to certain people and b) bursting into tears....

I was going to say - the kindy should of put a teacher in charge and made sure it was kids first. They are old enough to get their own and if they are getting too much surely the teacher should see this and interveen rather than the parents. Some parents are pushy... shame really.

that is so rude. I mean, we had a shared dinner last night and the ony reason adults were there first is we didn't want to let the kids near the food, but everyone was getting it for them (get it). You held your tongue Deb - this time you couldda let them have it!

yeah that behaviour from adults is disgusting! i havent been to a kindy shared lunch before so havent seen what goes on but i always thought it was for the kids only.. there was one at jades kindy on wednesday. my thing is im a germ freak and am paranoid about kids dirty booger nose hands touching food or taking a bit and putting it back! yuck, see that at parties. when we have parties in the family or a shared meal i "like" the adults to dish up for their kids, my neice and nephew (4 and 2) tend to hover over the food- cough and sneeze or touch it and it really bugs me, if theres lollies around or chip and dip i dont touch them cause they have free range and double dip

Wow our kindy shared lunches are for the kids not he adults! And there is food put on about 3 tables and the kids get to stand around all the tables and they shuffle around and help themselves, never eaten at a shared lunch myself it's for the kids, maybe you should write a letter to the kindy teachers.

i did talk to the head teacher and it seems that the behaviours have improved.... a lot of it seems to be cultural too tho. i have got myself invited to the next "whanau" meeting of the kindy so maybe i can sway things there.

I'm surprised they do shared food at preschool because of food allergies. At Playcentre they were always fruit and sandwhiches, sometimes scones made as an activity(dairy free).
