if the calculator says you earn too much do you get any subsidy - one friend of mine said you still get 9 hours subsidized? Is this true?

Haven't heard that one before. I do know that the 9 hours is there if one parent is at work and one is at home.

Nope, you only get the subsidy if your income is under the specified limit, but I *think* (may be wrong) that the limits are the same as/similar to FS so if you get FS you should qualify for something. The amount you get per hour depends on what your income is, we get $3.40 per hour for each of the girls based on our income.
You get 9 hours subsidised if you are a SAHM regardless of whether you have a partner/husband or not and whether or not he is working. If you are working you get the number of hours per week that you work plus travel time subsidised, up to a maximum of 55 hours per week. If you get a child disability allowance for the child you qualify for up to 55 hours per week regardless of whether you work or not.
Hope this helps!

I'm not sure why you're entitled to the full 55 hours if you get the CDA, I guess it's coz kids with disabilities sometimes require a greater level of care which is more stressful for the parents so they need a break? Who knows!?

gosh I need to let my friend know. she only gets 9 hours subsided and then pays full price for the rest and her child is on a CDA. I have one child on the CDA but not the one that maybe going into care.

We get the 9 hours (though he only does 5) but the subsidy really isnt as good as it should be! It still works out expensive up here... If I pay full price it is $42 for a half day! My cousin was saying her centre in Chch is $30 per FULL day!! Crazy stuff!

well I used the calculator on the WFF website - said I wasn't entitled to anything. Then talked to the girl who is going to be looking after rhyley and she said give winz a ring as sure we would be - low and behold we ARE.. so instead of paying $4.80 per hour we only pay $1.30 per hour... yay.. makes it more worth going out and working....

Yay Ann!
Maya's preschool is $45 a day before the subsidy, and her daycare that she went to when she was younger was similar, but I get 2/3 of it subsidised, and now it's even less coz they also take into account the 20 hours free.
I pay roughly $10 an hour for the nanny after the subsidy comes out, so it's similar to what it would cost to have both of them in daycare.

Liz I can do better . $17 a week for Andrew to be booked in for 4 full days (9 hours a day) at his daycare. But he is hardly there for the full 9 hours a day.

hehe I remember Brooke was in daycare full time (well 9-3) everyday and it only cost me $37. That 20 free hours is good aye.. Rhyley will only be in daycare 15 hours a week so only going to cost me $21. Not bad.
But it does pay to get a second opinion as as I said the calculaor said I wasn't entitled to any...

I cant believe you all get super cheap childcare. Alize is starting daycare in 2weeks and it is going to cost me $80 per week after the subsidy and that is pretty much the going rate in our area
