As a teacher I think the only think you should be slightly worried about is the talking thing, but I personaly think that its good for him to be able to pick him self up after small things happen. Sorry dont think this is very helpful, maybe you could talk to some one different next time your there?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think what they are doing is trying to make a sob story, so that they can get a good referral. You know your kid better than they do, so...relax.

Andrew is the same, he can hurt himself at preschool and not cry or tell anyone he has hurt himself. I hope they don't think that Lu.

i wouldnt worry too much about the talking either. I know that gabriel didnt even call me mummy till after he was 2. and kids can behave differently at daycare than at home. maybe he isnt comfortable enough with the teachers to show them how he is really feeling! perhaps they need to be observed not him, esp if they didnt bother to bring it up with you earlier!

Yeah i would question why they didnt raise these 'issues' with you earlier if they are that worried but Kobe is the same with hurting himself. I went to get him the other day and he had a huge egg on his head, it must have hurt but he didnt cry and when they noticed it and asked him about it he wouldnt answer them so they had no idea what happened but the minute i got there and asked him he told me he had crashed heads with one of the other wee girls. I think its just a daycare thing and sounds like its pretty common so dont stress. I would much rather kobe be able to look after himself than a drama queen!

Taine will usually not cry even when he hurts himself - and there is blood! Yet will scfream at the rooster on Baby Einstein. James sounds fine Lu. You msut be really frustrated - yell away.

Big hugs Lu! From having twins I can tell you for sure that every kid responds differently to falling over or bumping their head etc., Sienna wants to snuggle and sook, Mercedes just gets up and keeps going. There's nothing wrong with that!
I agree that if daycare thought James had a language/speech problem they should have approached you rather than waiting till you asked them. I hope that having an observer come in will help pinpoint any potential problems. We had Maya referred to a speech therapist after our Plunket nurse suggested she had a lisp, which she does, and I felt really reassured after the speech therapy session coz I found out it was completely normal and that most kids have it to some degree or another.

i always make sure i talk to everyone at DC morning and night and spend about 5-15 mins there for each pick up / drop off where i can. DH on other hand walks in gets bag, thanks them and leaves.....just as an example as to why sometimes they dont mention stuff....DH gets little to no info out of them cause he doesnt ask or build that rapport with them....I do and get heaps from them about what Ella is up to etc....
are you able to maybe spend a little more time there and see if things are happening differently, or turn up unexpectedly and watch through the glass etc? We can turn up whenever and see the kids and what is going on...I caught Ella being a drama queen thru the glass the other day - fell forward from sitting, looked around, grissled and demanded attention and yet stopped crying instant someone came to her even tho they didnt pick her up etc....maybe at DC he knows that he doesnt get pandered to if he hurts himself anyways and so gets on with it - to me that sounds like an awesome kid!!!
I also agree that the over the top referral may be them knowing what they will need to put to get funding approval which can be difficult to get!

Lu, I disagree with DC about James not showing emotion, cause I have seen him show plenty of emotion!!! He is a great little boy! He may not talk alot yet but then some Bubbas don't talk until later - just as some don't crawl/walk until later etc. But he may benefit from seeing a speech therapist, I know I did when I was little ( I had a aweful lisp), so hopefully that will help him. Big Hugs Lu, just wanted you to know you have a great wee boy
