Topic: Ive been so domestic! Posted: 06 October 2007 at 8:40pm |
I am so not a good housewife. I am the kind of housewife that has a cleaner and makes the nanny fold the washing, and I don't think about what's for dinner till about 4pm.
But birthday's in our family are traditionally DIY which means my slack, non domesticated self needs to get a bit that way inclined.
So today, in preparation for the gremlins birthday fiesta next week (which BTW is getting ridiculously huger by the minute!) I have baked. Oh boy, have I baked!
2 dozen mini fairy cupcakes
4 dozen pineapple and carrot muffins (from a YUMMY recipe in the NZ Allergy cookbook, the kids LOVE them and they are full of veges!)
4 dozen chocolate cupcakes
2 birthday cakes all cut into shape ready to be iced
2 chocolate/white choc chip brownies
And it is now all packed in the freezer. I am so proud! Willie had better not a) die of shock or b) touch any of it! when he crawls home from his drinking binge tomorrow!

I'm coming up to Emma's for the food, man that sounds yummy.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

What kind of cakes have you made for the birthday cakes? I didn't know cake could be frozen (I'm not much of a baker)

Good on you! I'm one of those mums that work best under pressure, I start the baking the day before the party and end up staying up until the early hours finishing everything then geting up the next morning to remember I forgot to wrap the last present!

I just made the plain butter cake recipe that's in the back of the AWW kids birthday cake book, but in the past I've used the Betty Crocker Vanilla Cake packet mix too. It works best if you freeze the cake first, that way the cake doesn't all crumb into the icing when you ice it.
I'm not much of a baker either lol, I only learnt how out of neccessity when Maya couldn't eat packaged stuff coz of her allergies.

At this stage it's in the region of 30 adults and about as many kids But like I said, growing by the minute!

Wow, Emma that is seriously domestic. I can't let my DH see this thread - he might start expecting me to do something like that too

lol whoa tha'ts huge amounts of food!!
I'm the same Nic, I have become a bit more mumsy and do baking with the girls on the weekends. Last week it was bickies, today was a 5 minute orange microwave cake. Will give me something yummy to take for the ladies on overnights tonight, hopefully a bit of sugar rush will keep us going.

Wow! That is a lot of food! Have a great party
We've started baking on the weekend too, instead of buying biccies and snacks. Today we made chocolate cake, brownies and anzac biscuits.
