Topic: everything is leaking- help!!! Posted: 08 October 2007 at 12:41pm |
Ok, I must bedoing something wrong as I am finding everything starting to leak now. My bubblebub comes up soaking wet as do my fleece snazzipants covers. Is he just becoming a super duper mega wetter or is is a washing problem????
I got sick of my clothes smelling swampy with ecostore so I switched to drive (consumer rated it good). I still only use half the quantity but with tiny loads maybe its too much! Do you think I may have stuffed the absorbancy and if so how do I fix it????
I am getting sick of changing ALL his clothes each nappy change. In saying that his happy heiny wiht a snazzipants booster lasted 10 hours!!! Man was it wet then but he was dry and his clothes were too....but I only have 1 of these

You may need to try stripping your nappies just in case there is a build up on them. Check here for more info.

I'm thinking build up too.
I use persil (just the normal one) and wash about 8 nappies with inserts at a time and use 2 tablespoons of powder. I've only ever needed to strip my nappies once in about a year (I'm very slack, but they still perform like new)
P.S
Are the inserts soaked through? If they are then you might have a super pee'r on your hands and need to add more absorbency. If they're relatively dry then I would say you have a product build up problem.
Let us know how you get on

Oh they are soaked through all right but this has only started happening in the last week. before hand everything was going well....I'm thinking build up too. How do I strip them? I am still waiting for my registrating on nappy network to be approved (like I need another outlet for my addiction )

If they soaking through then the pee is getting through the fleece, so I don't think your problem is build up.
Maybe Thomas is drinking more than before?

How long do you leave nappies on before changing? Maybe you need to change more often?
Copied from that thread for you on stripping nappies:
I do a hot wash without detergent and then do a cold (well not always cold to be honest) wash with ˝ cup baking soda and ˝ cup vinegar in the wash and another ˝ cup vinegar in the rinse cycle, and then do another long rinse.

Can they really pee THAT much??? He is feeding longer now and often wants both boobs whereas before he would only feed off one.
Hmm, will have to experiment more.
As for changing..I change him with every feed so that is usually no more than 3hrs. overnight I have been using a happy heiny with extra booster and we get no leaks. Not changing him every time at night has been great for getting him back to sleep (also means I can be back in bed within 30 min!)

Yes they can pee that much! lol
If he's taking both sides now, then the fluid intake has doubled too (in theory).
Caitlin's nappies can be flooded within a couple of hours if she has had a lot to drink, it's gotta go somewhere!
A couple of months ago she decided she wanted a mini pump bottle (like Mummy's) instead of a sippy cup. As a result she was drinking 2-3 of them a day and I ended up having to change her like a newborn and even had to add a couple of sposies to my stash as I just couldn't keep up with her (we have 18 MCNs and even that wasn't enough!). I'm happy to say that the new HC inserts can cope with her peeing and we're back to 7-8 changes a day

I've got a mega pee'er.. everyone who tried honeychild inserts said 2 inserts would be enough for night time. Daniel completely fills 2 large honeychild inserts in about 6 hrs quite easily.
Combination of microfibre and hemp is the only thing that works for us at no leaks at night time, and 2 microfibre inserts for during the day.

Maybe try changing a little more often if you don't have extra inserts? You could change before the feed and again before he goes for a sleep? Otherwise you'll probably need more inserts and possibly hemp. We use either premium prefolds during the day (3 hours JUST) or we have to use hemp and m/fibre.

That depends what you are stuffing in them now. Until recently at night I had Daniels smalls at night stuffed with 2 microfibre inserts, a peapod insert and 2 hemp ones and it still fitted him

hehe no worries! Just make sure when you order your nappies after the trial you go through me
Don't beat yourself up over the "under stuffing" it really is a trial and error thing. I'd suggest to stuff his night time pocket with as much as you can without making the legs gape (this can happen, even with the bigger kids!). See how you get on with different combinations. I know it'll be a pain with washing etc whilst you go through the process of the ones that don't work, but it's best to do that than keep buying different brands of nappy.
I'm sure if you asked there would be some lovely ladies willing to loan you some different inserts whilst you work out what suits Thomas. I only have microfibre FB and HC ones as they work fine for Caitlin.

Thanks for all your help guys! We will get there. I am already getting a feel for what nappies I can trust in what situation but boy I never expected he could pee so much. Now are number 2s going to increase too?? At the moment he is a regular little boy and I can almost predict when he is going to explode...and thankfully it is normally twice a day!

My Honey child arrived today and I know I should wash it first but I was desperate to try a new "toy" So I popped it on him (man it is big on his little bot!) after nappy free time as he needed a feed and there is NO WAY I am feeding a little naked boy! Anyway I am halfway thru a feed when I realise that this isthe afore mentioned "poop time"! Damn I got 30 min before the poop came So I have no idea about the absorbancy....will have to try again tomorrow!
