Topic: Sleep.. or lack of Posted: 24 November 2005 at 9:36pm |
Ella just turned 17 months and I really hope I'm not alone in saying that she doesn't sleep very well during the night.. it seems like every week/couple of weeks, there are a few days that she will sleep pretty well, but mostly she wakes up once or twice (or more). Most of the time I think it's teething, but I give her pamol and cuddles and whatever else it takes to settle her back to sleep if I think she's in pain.. so she will settle and then about 10 mins later wake up again.. and so on - goes on for an hour and a half sometimes, at around 3am..
I know there probably isn't an answer but just wanted some support as I feel like on the days she is waking like this. I really shouldn't complain, she is a gorgeous, intelligent little thing - it's just the sleep deprevation that gets to me!
Thanks for letting me vent :)
Kat

Aw Kat! I feel for ya!
I don't have a 17 month old but I do the same for Hannah. Just when I decide I really need to get hard and make a stand she starts teething or gets sick. At the moment its both at once

I'm having problems getting Jake to sleep at the moment. It's really hard listening to him cry, knowing that his world has turned upside down the past month....no more daddy ( who was his primary caregiver), lots of new faces, a strange bed, four hours difference, and daylight lasting until 9pm. I feel like "mean mum". It's horrible huh!

Thanks :) Sorry to hear that you two are having the same problem..
Nikki, yeah that happens to me too.. we decide that there will be no more milk in the night, etc etc and then she starts teething again and does her terrible "I'm in pain" cry and I can't leave her like that
Lizzle, sorry you have to cope with all that.. when we were in Brisbane it was pretty strange with 3 hours difference, Ella would wake up at 4am for breakfast.. and we'd have to give it to her - she didn't understand! When is his daddy coming here?

I can sooo relate! And the most frustrating thing is knowing that they are CAPABLE of sleeping thru, and CAN sleep thru, but DON'T!
I don't really have any advice, just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone!

Lewis arrives on the 22nd of december. I promised him not to buy any of jake's xmas pressies until then so we could do it together (he's so exicted!!), so on the 23rd of december, we are going xmas shopping....hmmmmm, why do I make these promises? I can't even say I must've been drunk!

Arghhhh Hannah has woken at 11pm the last 3 nights and has refused to go back to sleep the last 2 so has ended up sleeping with me. I say no more! (But I feel so sorry for her because she is sick. I know I feel like crap so she must feel pretty awful as well)
Tonight I will give her a good dose of Dimetapp and hopefully that'll knock her out

Oooh, my doc just prescribed me Phenargan for some nasty hives that I have, so I might sleep like a big baby tonight...

i wrote a reply ot this last night but got logged out and could be bothered signing back in.
Paris cries out in her sleep alot but isn't always awake - just loud enough to wake me! still she ends up in our bed sometimes. i think at about 17/18 months they go like that anyway... cos paris did it too - while i was preg and couldn't be bothered going to resettle like i usually did. so she spent a fair amount of time in our bed instead, especially during the last few months when i could get out of bed cos of the pain - i would just get mike to go get her if she started crying out otherwise it would be every 10 mins, and i couldn't get up to see to her, and there's only so many times i could wake mike before he got a bit pissed with me... so he'd get her the first time and that was that.
hope things get better for you - hopefully it will pass. it did for us for the most part. maybe it's something with their age.
