Hi all!
I haven’t been on here for quite a while… I’ve been taking time out trying not to actively think about all the woe that is our current TTC journey! But, now officially trying again so thought I’d post a quick update. Hello to newbies I haven’t “met” or “talked to” yet!!

Wasn’t quite sure where to post this, but I guess the trying to get pregnant forum is as good as any…

As many of you will no doubt know, my miscarriage was physically traumatic this time round (rather than the emotional surprise that was the first one). It ended with my D&C in mid November, although the bleeding went on a full ten or so days (over my aussie holiday! How rude!!) longer.

When DH and I got back we went to see Fertility Associates again, as my doctor was at a bit of a loss. Prior to that, I had to have MORE blood tests which were testing for a whole lot of blood clotting issues. I REALLY thought that they’d hit the nail on the head, after some recent comments about my clotting. I was very happy because blood clotting is a relatively easy fix with baby asprin. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I guess, depending on how you look at it), all those tests came back clear. Apparantly, there are no known reasons from my side that should be causing recurrent blighted ovum. Having said that, a scan showed some trauma to my uterus from the miscarriage, but hopefully that will clear on it’s own.

Our specialist thinks that the problem could be on DH’s side. DH has an auto-immune disease which effects the thyroid (he now doesn’t have an active thyroid anymore), and it can result in a genetic anomaly that switches a couple of chromosomes around. And that results in a 75% chance of each conception resulting in a blighted ovum. The specialist is REALLY certain that this is a distinct possibility, seems the best reasoning we can go on at the moment. There is some **really expensive** genetic tests that can be done, however, and this is the super sucky part, the can’t be done until we have had three blighted ovums. POOS! That means, that we’ve been sent away to conceive again, with the specialist saying that it is highly likely that I will have to go through this all over again. He’s frustrated, we’re frustrated…. But what can you do?!?

So, now we are trying again. But as usual, it’s a race against time as I am still likely to develop the cysts on my ovaries that plagued me all last year. And if that happens, it’s back on the pill for 3 months before we can try again. Why does it have to be so complicated?!?!?

Please, please keep your fingers crossed for us. It’s O time at the moment, so hopefully in 2 weeks I have the two pink lines. And even if that turns to sh*te again, at least we are a couple of steps closer to getting the tests we need. And, if the tests turn out that there is a genetic problem…. Well, it’s off to IVF we go!!

Oh, how I wish it could be simple. Sorry for the novel!!

Good to see you back Laurie and I will definitely keep my fingers crossed for you. In a way, I'm glad there's a course of action for you to follow and that you're not left with everything unexplained. Like with others I've read about on here, now that there is a 'plan of attack' you're likely to have a healthy pregnancy for this next one It usually seems to be the case. All the best.

Good luck Laurie, fingers crossed that there doesn't have to be a third blighted ovum and that the next beanie sticks for you and your DH.
