Time to get up

OK, I remember a few posts ages back about some of you having a certain time which your kidlets are allowed to get out of bed.

Hannah has the odd morning (well, more often than not at the moment) where she wakes up at 5am. So far I have just been dragging her into my bed where she goes back to sleep until 7.30 (yeah, I know... bad mother... but as I am on my own it hasn't been a problem)

So now I'm sick of it and think she is old enough to (partly) comprehend that you don't get out of bed until it is 'wake up time'.

How do I go about it??? Do I just leave her crying until 7am, or do I go in when she wakes up and tell her I'll come back at 7am, or do I set an alarm or something to turn on so that she knows when she is allowed to get up?

Her room is now in a part of the house that it won't bother anyone if she cries. I actually have a hard time hearing her!

Any ideas???

I am SO glad you brought this up!! My little rotter wakes up every morning before 5.30. I can easily ignore him (mean mum!) but Andy gets up for work at 5.40. So every morning we all wake up super early, and it is doing my head in. Ideas to train him to sleep just a wee bit longer would very much be appreciated!

Andy's theory is that we turn the light on, once the light is on he can get up (he suggested a red-light bulb or something similar) but this plan doesn't thrill me. I am far too sceptical and prone to lean towards the ignore-him-til-it-is-time method, but as Andy doesn't agree with me there he brings Quinn in to bed with me when he gets up. From there we have a few rounds of 'how far can Quinn sticks his fingers up mummys nostrils' or 'pull mummys eyelids open by force thus ensuring a reaction' (apparently a horrified reaction is far more exciting than the tolerant version!) and then we get up. NOT A GOOD WAY TO START THE DAY!!

We started Angie at 7am when she was about 18months. We just taught her the number 7 and she couldn't get up until it was on. You could always set an alarm onto the radio and tell her she could get up when the music is on.

I still don't know what I'm going to do. Might try the clock thing but I think she's still a bit young to understand. Wish she was a child prodigy

I got her up at 7 this morning. She was crying and I have no idea how long for. Can't have been that bad as she only had a few tears. hehehe Very convenient that it's hard to hear her from my room. Makes ignoring her very easy

Hannah has started waking about 5ish as well but I can settle her back to sleep til 7 without a feed or anything. Am wondering if thats about the time it starts to get daylight??

That's why I am soooo glad Hannah has a dark room!
It would be hell if she were in my room as I have a skylight. Arghhh drives me nuts
