Topic: How do you do it? Posted: 04 January 2008 at 8:22pm |
Basically today's appointment sucked.. got swelling but BP fine but might develop pre-eclampsia so may have to have growth scan(he was measuring big but now normal which she says is fine) ...have the hemhorroids(sp?) , and now have SPD.. so can't walk very well..have cells that are fine not pregnant but pregnant can cause premature labour so will be starting third set of antibiotics to prevent that.. and strep B(oh and three sets of trips to the dentist:( ) ... midwife told me of a case that the baby died in .though she said it is rare but does happen and as long as I'm treated I'll be fine( her point was if the next swab is negative they still treat you just in case which is fine) ..
anywya i know a lot of this is normal pregnancy stuff..but with Dh working long hours to make up for me not working and labour impending how do you I change my mindset...at the moment I just can't see him being here healthy...i want him to be of course and I hope so..but all these things that have/can go wrong.. and Dh just doesn't get it..
I know lack of sleep and the SPD aren't helping at all and most of the time i can relax and chill out but there are lots of times when i just worry it will all go wrong..is it normal? I think part of it too is he is the first Grandchild on my side and the first in 12 years on the other so everyone is hanging out for him to be here and since the miscarriage I feel i let everyone down:(

Awww KA I don't know enough to give you any advise but from what you have said, it sounds like you're aware of any potential for problems and taking the neccessary precautions to keep you both healthy.
I also wanted to give you big

try not to worry, sounds like they are onto any potential problems and you are on the home stretch. Ethan will be here before you know it and he will be a healthy beautiful wee boy and all this will be a distant memory

Yeah i was way more paranoid after my m/c and then with the gestational diabetes someone told me there was a higher chance of still birth if GD babies go to term and that was it, I basically refused to go past 38 weeks and luckily had a midwife who was happy to accomodate plus of course there were other issues that helped that decision but what Im trying to say is I know what its like when you are worried because of complications and everything goes wrong but positive thinking!!!!

All totally normal KA. I even worried right through labour . Just remember most babies are born perfectly healthy! And if they are not you are in the best place. CWH NICU was FANTASTIC for Tom (even though he was only there over night).
Chill out, and try to relax. Use the SPD as an excuse to wind down. Believe me it will all be different once he's here. And the weirdest thing is that all the annoying pregnancy things seem to magically disappear the moment they are born. dont know what thats about but its not till later that you think "oh yeah, I used to have trouble sleeping, my fingers constantly tingled, the balls of my feet hurt.....etc"

lol thanks for the kind words..but i think after the miscarriage truely relaxing doesn't come into it..i get stressed until i hear his heartbeat everytime..hopefully it will fade after having him..I'm sure it will as I'm reasonably confident in my ability to look after him etc..(though of course i know it will be hard)
yeah i guess i find it weird i will go from doing nothing all the time to having no time free at all:) and that's awesome that they mostly disappear after the birth!!:) looking forward to that.. just confused as to why i have protein in urine and swelling but no BP problems?yes I've heard it will all be a distant memory right afterwards..:) hope so..must be as you are wanting to do it again ;) !

Hugs Kawwww, you sound exactly like me when I was pregnant with the gremlins and it's a perfectly natural response to having lost a wee bean with all the hopes and dreams that go with that, I never really allowed myself to believe that the gremlins would be born alive, right up until they were born I prepared for them to be stillborn, get TTTS, be prem/sick... and we had a few complications along the way that only made me stress more too. I have a few friends who have had stillborn babies and I kept thinking "if it happened to them, it could happen to me..."
I think the thing to focus on is that 95% of babies who are born at or after 30 weeks gestation survive and have no long term disabilities or defects, and of the other 5%, a large number are accounted for with abnormalities/defects picked up on ultrasound antenatally. Whilst no one can guarantee you 100% that your baby will be safe until he is in your arms, the odds are definitely in your favour.
Hang in there, in a few short weeks this will be all a distant memory. I agree with the step B thing, better to be treated just in case than to run the risk of passing it to bubs. PLus, you're already 35 weeks and babies born post 36 weeks don't have to go to NICU as a matter of routine, only if there are difficulties. My gremlins were born at 36w5d and I took them home on day 4.
More hugs!

I always felt cheated after my miscarriage. I lost that wonderful innocence that most other women seemed to have with their pregnancies. I worried about every little ache or pain or lack of aches and pains (lol). My first pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks, I've since gone on to have two wonderful children with no pregnancy issues.....but very stressful, emotional pregnancies for me. I wish anyone going thru pregnancy after miscarriage safe and healthy pregnancies.

yeah when is your appointment? i hope it goes well!! my update is
What happened: went in and she went through results..all fine...perfect except platelets down...so that's good...bp 124/90 which apparently is fine...awesome..no protein in urine...awesome....swelling up to tummy though:( will be having bloods twice weekly and 2x weekly mw appointments....she checked bubs heartbeat and said ' oh he's doing great' I said why do you say it like that like you expect something to be wrong and she said oh no he;s doing great but (after talking to me about movements making sure of 10 a day) she said sometimes things can happen and told me a story about a baby dying:( ugh!!!!)i know she was just pointing out about movement but it scared the crap outta me!
anyway she said at the moment i am fine besides the swelling but still have to go to hospital appointments.. at least the first one..prob twice weekly as well...BUT baby is growing well and measuring fine..so no scan:) I mean that's good but i wanted a scan:) !!!so swelling can be normal by itself?but because its excessive they are worried?(cut and pasted)
