Newbie to all of this!!

I'm considering switching to the new modern cloth nappies, but have no idea where to start!!

I am quite lazy so like the sound of the All in ones, how many would I need to buy? What are the best ones?

Any info greatly appreciated!

AIO's are good for during the day, but they can be much slower to dry and aren't that great at night time as you can't really add much absorbency to them.

Pockets aren't much extra work at all. It takes all of a few seconds to stuff them and they dry far quicker than AIOs and it's great that you can customise the absorbency.

I've tried sooooo many nappies (and make them). The ones I've tried are: foxybots (my nappies), fuzzi, tweedle, baby harmony, honeychild, GAD, Berry plush AIO, bum genius, haute, happy heinys, dry bees, monkey doodlez, snazzipants, swaddlebees, bubblebubs and I think that's all. But I feel like I'm missing some lol.

Yeah, definitely go with pockets. Great for the lazy as well as being quick to dry and customisable.

Yep pockets here too -and I wanted to add my favs-Cheek Boutique from Baby Factory or Baby City. I like them because they are nice and soft on my chubby-legged one, and I have never had a leak, unlike with my Fuzzis. I find them quite trim too. Baby Harmony is great also. Have fun!

i was wondering what those cheek boutique naps were like....bit more than i could spend though   

Congrats on looking into MCN's and welcome to the board! I switched when my little man was 5mths and haven't looked back!! We started with Fuzzi Bunz (pockets) which I love and have also recently tried Honey Child (very similar to Fuzzi Bunz) and Foxybots (slighly bulkier than Fuzzi & HC but my new fave night nappy - perfection!).

I'd recommend 12 to start with too, but maybe just try a few different nappies before you buy in bulk, to make sure they suit your baby and you find them easy to use. Whatever you don't like you can always sell on TM. Also, I'd recommend buying extra inserts so that on days when your nappies are slower to dry (e.g. rainy winter days!) then you can use the extra inserts to stuff your pockets, which will dry much quicker! It'll save you having to buy extra nappies.

Also, experiment with inserts - which most commenly are made from microfibre or hemp and come in a pad-style or like a flat nappy that you fold in 3 to insert. Microfibre is quicker to absorb & dry, but hemp holds more liquid. A combination of both can be good! The flat inserts are good because they dry much quicker than a pad-style, which is usually 3 layers sewn together. But some people like the convenience of the pad-style insert (not that folding into 3 is difficult or time consuming!).

I reckon she is about 6.5kg to 7kg she has a plunket appt on the 5th Feb so she will get weighed then! Our scales are rubbish for weighing!!
