Way to feel pressured.

We have quite a few small pets (ok rats to be exact) and we thought and thought and because they require so much work (most of which I can’t do at the moment) we feel it would be best to re-home close on half of them. We thought a baby was still a way off and we naively thought we could handle it all. Looks like we were wrong.

I’m feeling pressured from some quarters to not make the decision to re-home so hastily but we are sure we are making the right choice. And I don’t know how to get it through that this feeling of being over-whelmed isn’t going to last just while I have morning sickness but is going to be a problem right through to when we have a baby.

I don’t like re-homing pets…but I want to do what is best all around for our sanity and theirs! It is not a decision we have even made lightly, it is breaking our hearts but it hurts more to see them not get the right care.

Sorry I think I just need a bit of a vent. I could just about cry. I’m feel like I’m trying to make what I think are sensible choices and people are knocking them back.

I don't have any pets at the moment but I can imagine how you are feeling, most people view thier pets as their babies so any decision such as this will always be hard.

I think that as they are YOUR pets, you know what is best for them and will make the appropriate decision. Hope that helps in some way.

People are always going to force their opinions on you no matter what!! If I were you (here comes MY opinion lol) sit down for a wee while and figure out exactly what you want to do and then stick with it. Don't be swayed by well-meaning people!!

no matter what you do, some people will always disagree. If you don't give them up, people will say "but rats are so dirty - they'll pass something on to the babies. you are being selfish". and if you do give them up "i can't believe you'd give up your pet. you're being selfish". Do what you want. screw everyone else. It's your life and you have to live by the decision. no one else!!!!

P.S I had a similar thing with my cats.

I have a story that is completely unrelated but maybe worth a laugh (might cheer you up lol)

When I was preg with Maya and found out she was a girl we decided to name her Maya. Of course we told people that was her name. Three weeks later one of Willie's cousins (who I can't stand) bought a rat and named it Maya just to p**s me off. They thought I would change baby's name over a rat! It didn't work, and three years later the rat named Maya is long gone, whilst I still love Maya's name.

And it always amuses me to think that they went around telling everyone I named my daughter after a rat1
