Hi everyone

We are going to have a combined 1st birthday and naming ceremony for DD for her first birthday in a few months and was wondering if anyone else had done this? I have never been to a naming ceremony before so if anyone has any tips/ideas/advice that would be great

I've had Naming Ceremonies for all of my kids. You can make it as flash or as laid back as you like.

We did them around 2ish and offered afternoon tea.

Maybe have the ceremony first and then have the birthday cake with nibbles etc. Make sure you let people know that it's a combined one.

My friend did this at her son's 1st b'day. It was a surprise for all the guests and was fantastic! Basically they had all the party food then, the parents called everyone together and announced they were having a naming ceremony as well! They had organised a celebrant to officiate. The dad did a nice speech and the mum a reading, then they cut the cake. It was really lovely. The b'day presents were then opened.

I also had a friend who did this. They also had a celebrant officiating, they had a 'service' handout with a photo and readings etc in it. They choose to have god parents too, a couple of which did readings (one was a really neat poem that was a surprise written specially). But it was all nice, freindly and casual, with cake, party food and pressies after. A really nice afternoon.

I didnt really have a naming ceremony but a blessing and it was really informal. Just friends and her godparents and the priest. Small ceremony and then some fingerfoods and lots of chatting.

Just to thread jack, I am also looking at doing a naming ceremony for our wee man.

We don't want to pay a celebrant so we are hoping to do it on our own. Does anyone know any good websites with ceremony outlines etc? Or does anyone have their one taht they could PM. It would be very much appreciated. We are looking at doing it at the end of march so need to get kinda organised.

We had one for Charlotte and we're having one for Kate when we come back in March. Mums organising this one for us- basically we're having a celebrant come and read out the ceremony. We're doing a balloon release, shes wearing DHs family Christening gown and having a cake made. Its at 11am and we're serving lunch afterwards.

If you're having a birthday party combined maybe you could do the naming stuff first and then have a party afterwards- I guess it depends on what you want birthday wise.

Our ceremony consisted of:

Welcome
Celebrant Reading
Parents promise + readings
Supporters promise (Grandparents)
Godparents readings
Balloon release
Closing words
Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3
