Topic: breastmilk/leakage question Posted: 23 January 2006 at 3:12pm |
I have a couple of questions for all you second or more times mums.
Did you have less engourgement the second time around when your milk came in?
If you leaked the first time before you had baby, did you leak before the second as well?
I leaked for weeks before I had Sophie, but so far haven't leaked at all this time. I'm hopeing that this means I won't end up as engorged this time when my milk comes in. Last time I ended up so engorged I got breast infections within a day of my milk coming in. I think too much milk also lead to problems with Sophie - Was getting all foremilk and no hind milk - bad wind, unsettled, feeding 2 hourly...

I didnt seem to notice the engourgement as much. But im not sure if thats just because i kind of knew what my body was in for. I still had to sleep with towels etc, but i dont think i leaked as much. But then after about 4 weeks Jayde started to drink less and less anyway so maybe im not a good case study.

I leaked a little with both, before I had them - but nothing major - i never wore breast pads or anything. But i hve noticed this time my breasts don't feel as full ( although this is only day 6!!), and I haven't really leaked too much at all.

had heaps of milk and was aways engorged and sore, and even had to wear breast pads for a while after weaning.... no probs with my milk supply! argh! i wouldnt of minded a little less leakage! i didnt breast feed my first baby, she wouldnt latch on, mind you she had tiny little mouth and i had well, rather large breasts! and that combined with my vast milk supply... amoung other things... but my second breast feed easily.... we were more matched up with the mouth-breast size thing!! lol.

yup leaky breasts is a fact of life - and not a readily discussed topic
I'm sure you are aware that leaky breasts varies for all women and all babies.
I wouldnt generalise in saying that if something happended with your first baby, then it would happen again for the second. Just be prepared!

I LEAKED WITH MY FIRST BEFORE I HAD HER AND THEN I LEAKED WITH ALL OF MY CHILDREN AFTER HAVING THEM AT THE MOMENT I AM BREAST FEEDING MY 5MTH OLD AND IM STILL LEAKING BUT NOT AS BAD. I GUESS IT DOES DEPEND ON YOUR BODY TO WETHER OR NOT YOU LEAK

first time i was terribly engorged, second time it wasn't as bad really... prob cos boobs had already had all the stretching they could handle the first time round - so wasn't too painful when they got full up.
hhm leaking, never really had too much prob either times, but 2nd time is definately less.
