Ellen, how many sleeps does she have in a day? Luke often does this too - I try to get him to go back to sleep but he won't, takes an hour or so of playing/feeding etc before he will go back down...

Jack generally only sleeps for 45min which is 1 sleep cycle. I think that this is more common than people think and is perfectly OK if your baby wakes up happy. All babies need differing amounts of sleep just like adults. I used to stress about it but have given up now and just go with the flow. Although it can be annoying as you don't have much "quiet" time I find it alot easier in some ways as a 45min sleep fits in quite well when we are out, I don't have to be home by a certain time for a 2hr nap or get stuck somewhere waiting for him to wake before we leave.

i agree with I think if your baby wakes happy and is content then that'/s ok. My boy did this for a while, but was grumpy and grizzly and would need to go back to bed within 30mins so I did the shhh pat thing for approx 3 days everytime he woke at the 45min mark and within a few days eh went back to sleeping for approx 1.5hrs.. this was about at the 3month and 6month mark he did it I think :)

Jessica has about 3 to 4 of these a day and is down at 7.30- 8pm for the night till around 7am so shouldn't really complain but some days i just get nothing down which makes it hard.

Ellen, Lauren is exactly the same. I consequently get nothing done at all! She will happily sleep for an hour about 3 or 4 times a day, she has never slept longer than that. But I tend to think as long as she's sleeping through the night, which she does, till about 6 or 7am, I shouldn't really complain!
I use the evenings after 8pm, when she's down for the night to actually get something done. I am normally up till around 11 or 12 at night, just to catch up from the day of managing to do very little!!
Lauren is always happy and playful after only one hours sleep, so that must be all she needs!!

Yep, Madison is the same. She has either 3x 45 min naps or 1x45min nap and then another 2hr nap. Her morning ones are always 45mins. She is also fine at self settling and sleep through the night. As the others have said if the baby wakes up grumpy and crying then they obviously need more sleep, but Madison wakes up happy happy happy

Keziah is the same, and she'll fight sleep too which is really bad.. Her day starts at 7am (usually) I find when I have to break her routine to go out etc her sleeps are no more than 45 minutes and usually that's while we're on the go so it's not proper sleep. If hr routine is stuck to she'll have a really big nap before we go and pick Seth up from school and then a small 'cat nap' in the mid afternoon before her evening routine starts.. If we're sitting around doing not much, she gets bored quickly so I find that I'm feeding just as we're too run out the door to keep her entertained and FULL..

Yeah I had this with Spencer except sometimes he would wake up after 45 mins a very unhappy chappy. We visited the plunket centre and got some help for resettling those times that he was unhappy, but all the times he was happy to get up and carry on I figured he had had all the sleep he needed. Mostly now he does have 1.5-2hrs but still somedays he only has a cat nap and is then ready to go again.
He tends to do 10min powernaps in the car now , he seems tuned into the noise of our gravel driveway and is wide awake and ready to go as soon as we get home.
I reckon I must be the only person that wakes my baby up to go out, if I have said I'm gonna be somewhere at a certain time then we are there, I just wake him up get him ready and go, I can't say it has ever caused us any problems with regards to his sleeping.
