I have been having troubles lying on my left side....in fact I just cant anymore as when I do my heart starts doing this really odd beating...feels like it is squished and I start to feel not too good....

Has anyone experienced anything like this....?

I know at some stage I got told to lie on a certain side for some reason during pregnancy but can remember the reason?

Isn't it something to do with putting pressure on the blood flow? I'm not 100% sure but I remember having the same thing.

There are main arteries which supply blood to the uterus on both sides, so it doesn't matter which side you lie on, but most people find one side or the other more comfy. Some experts suggest it's best to lie on the left hand side but when I as preg with the gremlins I hated lying on my left coz Mercedes was bigger than Sienna and it felt like she was squashing her.

The main blood supply to the baby goes down your right side so they recommend you sleep on your left, particularly later in the pregnancy as the weight of the baby etc may compromise the supply. Really, you just need to do what you need to do to be comfe. As far as I know sleeping on the left is ideal but most people just sleep either side.

Went to the midwife this morn and mentioned it...she said not to worry about which side..just to get some sleep and that not to worry about lying on back now either (much later on) - if its comfy do it.

Also has suggested 1000mg EPO once a day for my headaches as can help with the hormones...going to try that :o)

I have come to the conclusion that sleeping from now on is just not going to be comfortable.

Its uncomfortable lying on either side (where's my arm supposed to go), if I lie on my back I can't breathe and if I lie in my normal pre-pregnancy half on my stomach with my arm above my head and under my pillow my arm goes to sleep and I'm worrying about squishing baby.

And thats without taking into account the fact that I still have to get up six times in the night to go to the loo!

I've tried the pillow thing but I guess lying on my side is just something I'll have to get used to. It'll be worth it in the end! And when baby arrives I'll be used to functioning on little sleep - yay I think

I am having this problem too and have been for quite a few weeks. I've only been able to sleep on my right side but over the last couple of days I've been getting pains in my side whatever way I sleep.
Sorry no suggestions, I'm still trying to work out a better way to sleep myself.
