Topic: Important question to C/S ladies Posted: 25 March 2008 at 6:16pm |
I figured the best place is to post here cuz most of you visit GC.
Okay heres my thing - as most of you know, i'll be pushing for a caesar to get this weasle out because of my back/hip issues. What I wanna know is, how many of you had to push for an elective - or did it for other reasons, and what did you say to your obst. to get one?
I'm having real issues getting thru to this retarded one I see about that I really DO need a caesar (i'm sorry but i'm not willing to dislocate my hip and risk crushing even more discs in order to get this baby out)
I'm figuring now that I really rely on my wheelchair more and more when I go out, that they might think hey maybe I DO need one. Because honestly, a LOT of yelling and screaming will take place if they keep turning me down. I'll go private and pay for it if I have to - we're not worried about doing that at all, but honestly, I'm pretty much sick of being told 'Oh but theres plenty of pain relief out there that we can give you.' Sure there is, thats lovely, but I'd like to be able to walk afterwards and not be completely wheelchair bound thanks!
What do you all reckon? Is there stuff I should be saying to this fool that you've done? Any help is appreciated greatly!!

I had an elective c/section due to being breech. My obstetrician has a very open minded approach to c/sections and says it is just another way to give birth. Not sure where you are based, but I saw Stephen Kruger at Shore Birth, on Auckland's North Shore.

yeah i had a ceasar (elective) with rhyley due to him being breeched.. and because he was a big baby they didnt want to risk it.
I think you really need to stress to them how much you are worried about it.

we had high risk from seven weeks.... and when i googled (yeah i know!) i found c section was higher probability...so spec knew that too and we both went with it....and he was awesome all the way thrugh...if we could have he would have gotten her out at 36-37 weeks due to my risk of going into labour - she was sitting breech too....
I think having the right specialist (thanks anil!) is the best thing out....he listened, fought me on some things, i fought back but never thought i wasnt in my own control with him....I say if he isnt listening to you now...or setting you up to have the birth experience you want then change specialists
Im not sure how far along or where you are to say more tho....

We with with a OB rather than a midwife because I wanted the option of a Csection if I felt I needed it. I think you paid extra if you opted for a Csection and was ok with that. Doctors view was it was my body and baby and as long as it was healthy then that was the main thing.
At about 30 weeks I felt that I could do it without a Csection but had I changed my mind I don't think I would have had a problem.

i had an elective c/s with jack as he was breech but i chose to try a VBAC with charli so i'm not sure if i could've had another elective or not.......perhaps another OB would be more understanding?? if i were you, i'd want a c/s as well!
are you with someone at CWH or st georges? if CWH, can you go to st georges?

I just see who they give me at CWH? I wasnt aware you can change who you see.. I dont wanna screw up having an appointment if I get there and its the same guy as before. I dont really want to offend anyone, but I know I have to do whats right for ME. I'm not concerned about the baby being breech or anything - hell i'd do it naturally if I knew it wasnt gonna screw me up~! ]
for those who wondered - nearly 31 wks, chch.

I had an elective for a breech presentation and so I wasn't actually given the option to birth vaginally (not that I minded). Ultimately it's your choice and you have very valid reasons for wanting one as far as I can tell. I would ask them to give you the reasons they won't do it.
I was told if I wanted to do a C for number two with the same OB it would cost about $2000 so if you can afford it then you may wish to go private. The bonus is that you will know the OB on the day rather than getting whomever is on call at the hospital.

I had a c section due to the huge risk of discolating my hip and rupturing my pelvis and the baby getting stuck in my pelvis. I went through middlemore (Auckland) and got my G.P to write a letter explaining my background, history of hip problems and the risk it would be to me and the baby.
My OB never questioned it and i had a c section at 39 weeks luckily i did he was engaged and was gonna come soon. They had to use forsecps to get him out!
Anyway push for a c section you don't want a discolated hip. Unsure of your history but if you've had hip/ back problems get the notes or get Ob to look you up in teh system and take them with you.
I stressed the fact that i didn't want to risk my life and my babies life when i didn't have to. I aslo stressed the fact that i would want to give birth naturally if i could and that this was not a choice to have a c section but the only way baby was coming out.
