I want to breastfeed up to 2 years + ...but have noticed that when Lucas breastfeeds (today in particular) theres this funny sound, almost like he is struggling to get milk out. It's kind of a whistly squeaking sound ...hard to describe, but he's feeding for ages and gets frustrated at the boob ....keeps going on and off of it/fussing!

So my question is how do you tell when you are drying up? I'm stressing that this could be whats happening... I really LOVE breastfeeding and am so not ready to give up, I will be so angry if I have that choice taken away from me!!!

He's not a huge fan of water, i get some down him during the day (as much as i possibly can) & well solids he can still be very fussy and have his off days with. So to be honest I love having the breast to fall back on ...and its extra bonding time with my boy too!

Ideas and advice much appreciated. TIA

Single Mum to a darling wee boy of 3 years :)

I'm not sure how to tell if you're drying up but if you want to increase your milk supply you could try fenugreek and blessed thistle.

I found this website on increasing milk supply lactation innovation

Hope it helps.

if he is feeding from you regularly i wouldnt think your milk would "dry up". it could be your are not getting enough of what you need tho - like water etc.

the fussiness may just be a phase for him.

I can definitely vouch for blessed thistle to boost milk supply.
I took 2 caps 3 times a day and after a day of that I woke up like Pammy Anderson again!
I agree with Deb as well, keep up your water and food intake, especially if you're busier than usual or more tired.
Good luck!
