Can someone tell me what it's like over there? I've never hopped on a plane or even been outside of Auckland really (except one small holiday stint to rotorua when I was younger).

Talk with parents is that Tasmania may be on the cards, if not moving to another part of Aussie. I'm secretly excited but don't want to get my hopes up as I've been let down various times before LOL!

But for anyone thats visited there, can you give me a bit of feedback, what is the spider/snakes/geeko situation like? I have a terrible case of arachnophobia (fear of spiders ....all creepy crawlies in my case) so am not liking the sounds of aussie from stories i've heard, BUT at the same time I can't wait to get out of here, been living in a hole that is South Auckland all my life, same house and all. I want a better life for Lucas.

TIA

Can't say too much for Tas as i'm not from there, but I was born and raised (until I was 4) in Brisbane. All I remember about the creepy crawly things were the ants nothing like the ants in NZ. My mum was bitten by one the other day and it was nasty.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

dont be too worried about those things...but it is different too here.

I went to tazzie a while back (OMG anyone remember Big fresh doing the 2 for one flights to oz? - well I took mum!)...loved it, ate heaps of crayfish...they are in abundance. Divine fish and chips...LOL.....

my idea of tazzie was it was kinda small town NZ....very similar and in parts you could swear you were in the sth island. Does snow in parts (like in ruapehu etc) - I can show you thru some photos one day if youd like to see more and if it gets serious...

I liked it...Im not a small town girl so not sure i could handle most of it to live there...some parts are very arty farty, but there is some amazing history...like the old gaols....and the ghost tour at the place where the massacre was...Ok SOOOO not trying to scare you tho...LOL!

to get to melbourne is a boat or plane ride...boat gets pretty rough and mum and i were the only people able to eat - the rest were too busy upchucing! but close to melbourne....I love melb shopping!!!!

LOL big brother, that was 'random' as the kids these days say! ...

No doubt he'd still have an excuse like 'can't afford a boat trip' (that's IF i was to even attempt to make contact ...which i certainly WOULD NOT)

ETA: would be odd knowing he was THAT close to home though ...as it stands I like to think he doesn't exist or at least lives on another planet!

I do remember that massacre in Tas, but Tas is quite big as well.

The massacre was at Port Arthur.

The prob with tasmania is that it's full of Tasmanians...

LOL, seriously tho, I know nothing about it except that us mainlanders like to give them stick about being inbred hicks. I'm not actually an Aussie (thank God) but lived there for quite a while when I was growing up. We were in Sydney, used to get Huntsman spiders the size of your hand in our shower, but they're harmless, I think that's part of the reason I've never been afraid of spiders.

And the mining thing was Launseston.

Ha that what they say about WA isn't full of western Australians.

Yeah I'd like to think somehow that throwing myself in the deep end, or in this case in a country/state FULL OF SPIDERS might cure my phobia ....YEAH RIGHT!

We've lived with Weta's all around our section (lots of native trees) for all my life, and I'm definitely not immune to them LOL! Try having them drop on your shoulder when you walk outside ....least to say I screamed my bloody lungs out!

And when you mention inbred hicks, I think of Waiuku in Auckland LOL! ....everyone seems to be related or know everyone else there! (No offense to Waiuku residents on here ...I have a lot of friends out there) ...

Nah, Taranaki is inbred hick country here lol (I can say that, my family are from there for generations!), esp Inglewood.

I'm not scared of any insects. Birds are a diferent story...

LOL! ...well waiuku is basically an extension of Puke!

But in saying that, Puke has a nice little township. Would much rather live out there than Papakura -a tad bit safer! But then nowadays is anywhere safe? ....anywhere in NZ?

Yes birds. I am pathologically afraid of them. My psychiatrist tells me it's not normal. My therapist thinks its coz I had traumatic childhood experiences with birds...

But seriously: feathers, beaks, claws, beady eyes... what is RIGHT about that?
