Hi all. We have been ttc #1 for about 14/15 months now. My dh and l are 34 and l'm about to turn 35 in July.
My GP referred us to Fertility Plus under the public system in Nov. All hormone levels are normal, as is sperm analysis. I had a laparoscopy and dye, and a hysteroscopy in January. A small endometrioma was removed from my left ovary, but the specialist didn't feel this was significant. At my follow up appt last week we were told there was no reason why we shouldn't get pregnant in the next year. So we have been told to come back in another year if still not pregnant!
I am also having acupuncture twice a week and trying to take the herbs.

Well this weekend l had a complete meltdown and feel l need to be more pro-active. Waiting another year seems impossible right now.

Sorry for the novel. Finally my question is, which fertility clinic do l go to? Fertility Plus despite the fact they think l should wait? Or Fertility Associates even tho they are more expensive but seem more well known?

Good luck to all on this difficult journey.

TIA

Hi Tibby, and welcome
Hopefully you'll be preggers soon and not have to bother about which clinic to choose.
Personally I really didn't like the woman I saw at FA when we first started making enquiries and we're now with F+. We're pretty happy with them though they do seem a bit disorganised/over-worked at times. I also felt like FA's main priority was making $ and F+ was about making babies, but that's just my opinion and I'm sure people who are with FA may have different views (maybe I just struck the wrong person on the wrong day). I also like F+ coz at least some of the specialists are engaged with the med school so are totally up to date with the latest research.
Did you know there's a new clinic, IVF Auckland? The only thing I know about them is that Cindy Farquhar is a specialist there, and she's lovely.
I know your DH's sperm analysis was normal, but it wouldn't hurt for him to have some acupuncture and herbs too. Which acupuncturist do you go to? I go to the Centre for Chinese Med in Grey Lynn and they only charge an extra $10 for your partner.
Good luck!

I go to IVF Auckland and find them wonderful. I cannot rate them high enough!

Thank you for your replies. Catie if you don't mind me asking, who do you see at F+? Do you see the same person each time?

I think l am leaning towards going private with them because they are cheaper than the other clinics and already have all my notes.

Thanks

Hi Tibby
I've only seen a specialist once, for my first visit - Bruno Radisich. I was v impressed; nice, thorough, patient with all our questions, gave the right amount of info (enough to know the options and how things worked etc, not so much as to be overwhelming) and left me feeling like it was up to us to make the appopriate choice for us rather than being told we had to do IVF (which was what FA did, and we really didn't feel prepared for IVF).
Specialists have done a couple of scans too, but I can't remember their names as have only spent a few minutes with them - nice enough, professional etc. Other than that I've seen / spoken to nurses numerous times, and the IUI's themselves have been done by nurses. Mostly dealt with two - Anna and Nicola - both lovely. The one complaint I would have is that they seem a bit disorganised or possibly overworked at times - forgot to tell me I was meant to be on an increased dose of clomid for example, which was pretty frustrating. But overall I'm very happy with F+.

Although we are publicly funded, we are using Fert Assoc in Wgtn and I cannot speak highly enough of them. Always very organised, professional, the nurses are lovely to deal with, the embryologists, everyone. I've felt totally at ease and confident with them the whole time. Our doctor is Dr Hutton, he's been marvellous.
Being publicly funded I thought we'd get 2nd rate care, but I feel we are treated like full paying customers.

We are with F+ in Auckland and I'm with Catie - although a little disorganised at times (I had a scan yesterday, and although I had the scan appointment, they didn't tell me I had to get a BT first! I was too ill/naieve to click that I'd had a BT before my previous scan!)

We started off with FA, but we're going public so ended up with F+ - but, to be honest, I'd stay with F+ because, as Catie said, they seem all about making babies!

Unfortunately, if they can't find a reason for your taking longer to get pg, it's pretty standard advice. You'll likely get the same thing at FA. The thing is that there isn't anything specific to go on for treatment.

We are with FA in Auckland (public funded IVF cycle)and I can't speak highly enough of the treatment/care we've been given. Especially after going through OHSS, nothing is a problem, even if i call with what I think is something minor - they get me in for a scan and blood tests. The nurses I'm dealing with are great, so are the specialists and lab technicians.

I've been scanned by three different specialists, Mary, Richard & Neil (Richard is our primary specialists) and all have been understanding and given us enough information to be put at ease. Richard was there for our EC which was great, although I don't remember a thing, due to my ET being a weekend he was not rostered on and we had Mary, We'd seen her before and again I wasn't phased with this as it was all explained to us at the beginning that depending on dates and rosters we may not have our specialist for both procedures.

I really think it's a personal choice, each person will have different experiences and as i've only been through FA I can't give any opinions on F+.
