my understanding is that when you go to the dr for a pregnancy test (and nothing else ie for a sore throat) and if the test is positive then the dr doesnt charge you.

Welcome to Ohbaby and congrads on the pregnancy. Agree it's a bit odd the doc charged you as I though that all doc visited related to pregnancy were free (I don't recall having to pay anything). |

Yeah, anything maternity related should be free, id query it next time you go (lol else you will be spending a FORTUNE on docs alone over the next 9 months!)
 congrats by the way |

   Hi Nickistar, welcome and congratulations.
My preg test with the doctor was free but I was charged when I went to see him about something at about 7 months even though it was preg related. I was fobbed off by the receptionist who said that only appts within first 3 months are free - anyway since you fit into this category I'd query the charge.

 Hope you're feeling well.

Ouch on the cost of doctors. I never went to the doctors for my last pregnancy and so far the same with this one. Suggest finding a m/w....either hospital or private. I go private and still dont have to pay - she can also get some prescriptions for me without having to go to doctors. Ive now been referred to an obstetrician who again is free if you go through the public health system.
Also many people dont know this - if you are going through the same district health board - after you have 3 scans, the rest are free. (Unfortunately most only have 2 scans for a normal pregnancy). Hope it helps.

In Aklnd, there are free scan places and not free scan places (no matter how many you have). Maybe you went to a not free one?

Congratulations Nicki! And welcome to OhBaby!
All the scans I ever had were free, but I remember asking if I could have another one (just because I wanted to, not because of any concerns) and my MW told me it would cost $300!! I have heard of others paying that for extra scans too. But all DR and MW appointments that are pregnancy related should be free.

Hopefully someone from Hawkes Bay will be able to let you know of a good MW. It pays to book with them early.

   Welcome to Ohbaby! And congtaulations!
Yeah I think it depends where u live as to how much u pay for Drs, and scans. I think a lot of plces u have to pay to see the Dr after 3 months even for preg related things, as by this time u should have a LMC who is paid by the government to look after you for all preg related stuffIf u need an Ob they will refer u to one at the hospital.

OT- but I had to laugh at Hawkes Bay being a small town! Hahaha! It has all the maternity services u need there, even can care for real prem premmies. And Napier has all the shopping u can want! PP, JK, Baby factory,...we recently did a trip there 3hrs each way just to go shopping!
