Hello all - this is a plea for help from my little sis as she needs to do research for her final year design project and doesn't know many people in her target market - luckily I do, a whoooole internet community of them.

Anyway, if anyone is bored or inclined to help out a struggling student.. then read on!

Apologies to people who hate this kind of stuff - I'm hoping you will forgive me and just ignore this topic ;) xox

Oh yeah, and I had to copy over the whole email because my little sis is hilarious. Well, I think so anyway!

Hi Nicolas Whyte, how are you?

I need you!
I have this survey for 25-39 year olds (of which I don't know anyone), and need lots of people to participate.

Please would you lovingly start a topic in nerd-ville (hehe) to help a sister out.

SURVEY – User Needs

Potential topic headings:

    * My sister is awesome so please help her out!
    * Kitchen design sucks - help make it better
    * Contribute to the future of kitchen design - voice your needs!
    * Have you read all your blogs.. And still need to procrastinate over something?

Hahahahaha ok those were jokes.. Anyway heres my lil statement you might like to add:

Hi, I am Juliet Whyte – a student at Massey University, Wellington, of which I am in my final year of a bachelor degree in Industrial Design.

For a project this year I am researching into the Sustainable Future of the Kitchen Experience to provide design opportunities for 2018. As part of this project I need to develop an understanding of user needs of the people I am designing for. To find these needs I am undertaking a survey, which contains 3 parts with topic related questions about your own kitchen experience.

Are you?
·      Aged 25-39
·      In a relationship
·      Currently renting

Well that's fantastic - Pllleaaseee do my survey! (10 minutes of your whole life) camera needed - but no issues if ya don't have one.

:)

Jutey

I just asked her about that as she said I could do it but I'm only 23. I think she's underestimating the early child bearing age round here

Put 23 - then she can make changes if she needs to based on you 2 years from now. Oh yeah, she's also an amateur psychic

Here is her answer to my question about whether her age and renting criteria is strict:

Hrmmmm... Ideally needs to be in the bracket if I was designing for today... But im not! so for the sake of me cheating/ forecasting into their future, ill take their opinion yes. I think its going to give me an overall picture and as long as they state their correct age I can then make forecasting judgments based on future scenarios.

Short answer about age – yes, please :)

About the renting. That criteria is based on the affordable housing project – I have made judgments that if people are renting, generally it is because they cant (yet) afford to buy a house. Therefore the affordable housing scheme would appeal to them primarily. It would be ridiculous to illuminate* potential buyers of affordable housing just because they already had a house – because there could be some people in this bracket that had exceptional circumstances like: a couple bought a cheap sh*tty house out in stokes valley** but would be interested in buying affordably in the city to reduce travel costs.

Short answer about renting – They don’t ,have to, have to be renting but hopefully they have ambitions that might relate to owning in medium density housing if it was affordable...

Hope that makes sense. Could have given you simple answers only but I had to justify it to myself

Ciao
Jute

*I assume she means "eliminate"
**No offense to those who live in Stokes Valley heheh

Darn it, I would have done it, especially cos I'm meeting a kitchen designer tomorrow to see about creating my dream-on-a-budget kitchen. But DH and I own the house, and I want a big farmhouse with a big farmhouse kitchen, so not really what she's after.

But I wanted to post huge encouragement to her, cos I'm in the process of collating the results of a survey I did as part of my PhD project and its HARD WORK! [Hence I'm trawling OhBaby, lol].

So Jute, I hope you get lots of helpful, analysible answers and plenty of amusement out of it. Although they aren't always the most helpful, the funny answers sure break up the monotony of entering data!

hehe I'll tell her rhick - thanks for that

And sheesh, PhD! That's hard work! I'm scared to even attempt my MA!!

She's such a dedicated student though... has so much passion for what she is doing. I'm just a tad proud of the kid

Done and sent Have to say it was one of the most interesting surveys I've ever done. I hate those flybuys ones when you have to rate things on a scale like 10 billion times.
