Hi everyone.
Well, today I had my first appt with the ante-natal diabetes nurse at the hospital, and next week meet the obstetrician, dietician and someone else also I think.

Am working from home this afternoon, as felt a bit emotional over everything. I had a blood test last year, which came back high for sugar, and did a tolerance test, also high. Thing is that the doc told me one thing, and today the nurse told me another - in terms of what those results are, so I'm a bit confused as to who is right, seeing as they both showed me pieces of paper with the outcomes!

I now have a tester kit at home, which I have to use before every meal and 2 hours after as well to get an indication of my levels. Have just booked to see a naturopath on Wednesday as I'd rather try anything natural to help the sugar levels, than end up injecting insulin a bit down the track.

Am feeling quite disappointed that I will have to birth at the hospital now, instead of at a birthing centre as I originally wanted/planned. I know it's all for the best, but still getting my head around it.

If anyone else is in a similar positon, it'd be great to hear your story.

Hey Selina, I havent had GD but just wanted to say that I am sorry to hear things arent quite going to plan - just think about the beautiful baby you get at the end of all this. BTW, I think I would go by what the diabetes nurse said rather than your doc, cos the nurse is probably more of a specialist in this area than your doc. All the best.

I had GD with my last pregnancy and it wasnt diagnosed until 4 days before I had my wee boy (well big boy, 7lb 2oz at 34 weeks). I was able to control it with diet but my initial tests were so bad they said I would be on insulin straight away but said they would give me a day to monitor me (I was in hospital cos waters had broken 6 weeks early) and because my levels stayed down I didnt have to do the insulin. Kobe had really low levels when he was born and was put onto glucose straight away but it didnt take long for his levels to come right and Im really glad I was in the hospital because the support was great. Try not to be to disappointed because when the time comes it really is such a comfort knowing you and your baby are in the best hands. Im hoping to avoid GD this time round. Good luck.

I had a positive screening test, then a negative second test, but my midwife wants me to be tested again as she thinks bubs may be getting a bit big..... It is pretty scary isn't it. But like Aimee said - just think about the beautiful baby at the end
