So, my midwife and Dr both said take it for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy, but the bottle says for 12 weeks from conception which is theoretically two weeks into the pregnancy, so do you take it until week 14?
I will keep taking it for now, but is there any danger in taking it for longer than that period of the pregnancy?
Sorry if it's a silly question!
My doc told me that body only absorbs enough to sustain the pregnancy and discards any extras so no I think it is safe...and I would keep taking them till they are finished!!
I know I started taking mine when I first started TTC and am still taking them.
Elevit has folic acid and you are supposed to take that (for the vitamins) the whole preg and breast feeding so I'm sure too much Folic acid would get discarded like Roksana said
I started taking mine about 2 months before I got pregnant and stopped at about 14 weeks as that was when the bottle ran out. Figured better too much than not enough!
I took elevit for 6 weeks when I found out I was preg (2 months in), and discovered my body has a nasty reaction to too much folic acid. So those went out the window pretty quick.
Folic Acid is a B Vitamin which means it is water soluable. Anything that the body doesn't need it will get rid of in the urine.
I took folic acid for about 18 months prior to getting pregnant (that hows long it took us) and I had to buy a new bottle only a week or so before the three months were up so just kept taking them until they ran out close on 4 months.
