Topic: What to take to daycare/preschool Posted: 15 May 2008 at 8:16pm |
Ok, so my baby starts at preschool/daycare/whatever on Monday and it just occured to me he probably needs to be taken shopping!!! right?????
What do we need? A bag? a lunchbox thing?
Any ideas or hints? I know I need a wetbag, and I might get some more bottles as we are always needing to wash to get through the day but what else?

Do they feed him there? If so, he won't need a lunchbox, but he will need a bag.
I went way overboard when Maya first started, I packed bibs and muslin cloths and all sorts of things, but they supplied all of those things.
It might be worth investing in some bottles to live at daycare, that's what we did, saved taking them home and bringing them back all the time, and we also left tins of formula there for her with her name on them.

Just everything u would normally use for him at home in the day - A backpack to put it all in, a lunch box- bottles and lunch box should be named.
At least one full change of clothes including underwear and socks (Islas socks are always getting wet in the sandpit!). A special toy or other item that he uses as a comforter or sleep association.

I will watch this thread too as Spencer starts on Monday as well.
Really stupid question it says I need to name tag his clothes, how? can I write on the washing labels with permanent marker or do I have to stitch tags in. Cos that will take me longer than to Monday with my dismal sowing abilities.

When Andrew went as a baby he had in his bag. 2 changes of clothes. We left there 2 bottles and a tin of formula and a bag of nappies - sposies. They were fed there so didn't need to worry aobut food. And whenever we were running low on anything we just took them in.

I KNEW I needed to go shopping!!!! *does a little dance*. Emma, they physically feed him but I am pretty sure I provide food. I guess we will find out on Monday. Dont want him to look like a nerd or anything on his first day
I am SO nervous. We have got 4 sessions before I actually have to leave him but I dont know how I will cope. I dont think he will care.

I was the same Nikki, a wreck, and Maya was totally oblivious!
Marisa - I just labelled everything in the tag with permanent marker.

at work we say at least 2 changes of clothes, nappies, wipes, bum cream, food, bottles to stay at preschool is a good idea and the tin of formula
you can write on labels with a vivid, write on the socks to if you ever want to see them again (we have a huge bin full of miscellaneous socks) there is a company that does cute labels might be something along the lines of stuckonyou.co.nz ? i might be dreaming
definitely a snuggly from home for sleeps

Yeah I have seen that add for labels in littlies mag,..but not sure thats the exact address!
I would ring and check what u are expected to do for food, and also if they provide wipes. Ours does. At Isla's daycare, babies unde 15 months take there own food,..after that we just take one piece of fruit a day and the centre provides the rest. The fruit is cut up and put on platters on each table along with crackers/ sandwhiches ect for morning/afternoon teas.
Bonjela(if u use it).

Best to ring and check what you need.
I work in a daycare and luke comes too. He doesn't need a bag as they have baskets.
Our Daycare provides, nappies, wipes, bum cream and all meals. All i need to take is at least three complete changes of clothes all named don't forget socks and shoes. If your babies crawling take extra pants too.
Like simone said a snuggle cloth or something to sleep with helps. good luck!

most chch preschools dont provide nappies or food...though kindercare and bigger ones do provide food(and have baskets) most you need to take own food but i would just check,....some of the newer ones you probably dont...you can tell by how much you are paying:)

I use a lunch box which fits Bella's lunch, bottles and formula container (these are great as you can measure out 3 measures of formula). Daycare provides sippy bottles, bibs, wipes. I also take a bag with full change of clothes, 4 nappies, sunhat, woollie hat, nose/dribble wipe...I think thats it. And I label her clothes with a clothes marker and all her bottles etc. with a permanent marker. Good luck, both of you!
