No matter what I try Elle will not eat meat or vege except for in an omlet, once a week. I've tried dozens upon dozens of homemade ideas as well as stuff from the supermarket and she won't have a bar of any of it. Doesn't matter what form it is in, what time of the day it is offered etc. I am a good cook so it's not like the stuff is yuck or anything. She has textural issues e.g. if it it remotely slimey she will not even try it.

I am concerned as she has a history of iron deficiency and judging from her current state I think her iron is too low again (off for a test this afternoon). She also has an insomnia problem and I wonder if that too is related to nutritional deficiencies.

Can anyone recommend any good multi-vit supplements for kids. I am someone to believes a good diet is better than supplements but it's just not happening.

When Michaela went through a period of not eating meat (and occasionally when she chooses to not eat anything) we added complan to her nightime milk bottle.

Thanks for that idea. Elle's period of not wanting to eat much has lasted since she was old enough to eat! We have had a few good days, maybe a dozen good eating days in her life??

Lycan is the same he'll chew on his meat/chicken then spit it out and wont eat any veges anymore either. The only thing he will eat is pasta (Alfredo and 2 min noodles) corn, and jam sandwiches....I get really worried that hes not eating enough.....

Lycan is still being BF can i make him a bottle of complan???

Sorry to hijack your topic Fiona

I don't see why not, you may find it curbs his BF apetite tho and being bf'd he will be getting heaps of good nutrients from your milk, complan will just be a boost and make him full.

I'd definitely discuss with your docs too ladies if you're looking at trying anything longterm - they may be able to give you the prescription one (it's same as complan but premixed and cheaper since it's on prescription).

I think maybe Elle has, or is getting, a cold as she won't eat anything today. Not cereal or toast or fruit or dinner....nothing. I haven't offered biscuits or crackers as I've decided she won't get any more of those until she is eating some veg. Mean I know but seriously, she needs to eat better.

Plunket recommend Incremin syrup, I think it's primarily an iron supplement. Otherwise you could talk to the staff at the local health shop, we had Maya on some chewy animal shaped multi vits at one stage but I can't remember the brand name.

You could also try Resource, it's similar to Complan but I *think* it's only available from docs/dieticians.

I've found with all three of mine that if you find something they do like, run with it. We eat broccoli, carrots, beans and corn and that's pretty much it for colored veg coz that's what they'll eat lots of. I do try new ones from time to time (eg. tonight they had cabbage) but I can always guarantee they'll eat the 4 staples.

None of mine are big meat eaters either, they will eat mince, sausages (but only the really crappy, highly processed sizzler ones) and meat patties but that's it.

here's my tip for getting veg into Miss C

She thinks frozen veg is a treat, so she gets that after her dinner most nights
It's just a mix of the diced up carrots with sweetcorn and peas - she goes mad for it, especially if she's teething

As for the vitamins, not sure about Elle but I wouldn't give Caitlin something that had to be chewed, do they do anything like oral drops?

I used to use Incremin (or Giraffe medicine we call it because of the Giraffe on the packet lol). It does have good iron quantity. I used it when my boy went through a very fussy stage and hardly ate anything. He really liked it. Its a syrup and I used to just give it to him using a medicine dropper. I can also remember having it when I was a kid.

Forgot to mention, incremin is available at most chemists. no prescription etc needed but talk to the pharmacists if you want more info. Incidentally, my boy went thru a stage where he only wanted banana. I ended up mashing banana and mixing it with homemade casserole and as long as there was more banana than casserole (ie wasn't too strong tasting) he would eat the whole lot. Made my mother gag when I told her. She thought it sounded revolting, buy hey, he ate it, that's all I cared about. lol.

Fiona I was at Life Pharmacy today and noticed that they have a range of supplements for kids called "yummi bears: (they look like the gummy bear lollies). They come in 4 types:

* Echinacea
* Vitamin C
* Multi Vitamin & Mineral
* Whole Food (fruit and veges)

They're $16.99 per pack and there's 60 'yummi bears' per pack.

Thanks. I've been working my butt off in the kitchen and have had more success over the past few days.

The one thing that is working ATM is to get her to feed me and then she lets me pop bits of vege in her mouth.

This week's victory is that she now eats carrot and prunes! :)

i saw something the other day and thought of you fiona.

it was that bee pollen on the good morning show... it seems to have lots of the vits and minerals you would need and the guy claimed you could open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on food and drink for young kids...
