Okay so to cut a long story short. I woke up this yesterday morning feeling like someone had punched me in the mouth, very achy ...moreso to the left hand side back upper jaw/cheek area. Didn't think much of it. As the day goes on all the inside of my mouth is really painful to touch, as is the roof of my mouth ...even if im putting cream on my face it hurts on the inside- what the?

I have chronic tonsillitis, they are being removed soon (just a matter of me going to see the prvt surgeon). My throat is killing me at present, more than usual ...is there such a thing as my whole mouth getting a secondary infection from craggy tonsils being left for too long?

Before bed tonight I had a feel around in my mouth, I swear it's especially swollen in that left back upper jaw area and I can feel something that resembles the sharpness of a tooth coming through - jeepers, please tell me it's not a wisdom tooth? I've never noticed this before, but then again ...I don't routinely stick my finger that far in my mouth lol.

What do you think this sounds like? I'm hoping I wake up in the morning and it's gone, but I doubt it. Poor bubba, if it is a tooth coming through I can so sympathise with him over his teething issues. This sucks. Hope its nothing too serious ...

Opinions or advice please ...anything I could take to relieve pain?

Could be a wisdom tooth. I've had to have all mine removed and it all started with the area getting swollen and sore from time to time before it just got unbearable and I had to have the tooth removed. They go up and down or something like that. Don't quote me or anything. I was in pain when the dentist explained it all. If it hasn't subsided I would get it checked out.

If you can feel the outline of a tooth coming through then I'd guess wisdom teeth as well. They can be very painful when they come through and the worst thing about them is they can move up and down for ages before they actually come through properly too.
With all the swelling and pain though, I'd go and see your dentist to confirm. You can get infections with teeth coming through and because of the nice warm dampness of the mouth they can get big and nasty, fast!
Nurofen four hourly helps with dental pain. Hope you're feeling better fast Steph!

ok well,
ive seen soooo much of this at work latley

it could be wisdom teeth moving around there somewhere they can break thru and then go back down again they can do this for years and years
but . .
sinus, throat, tonsil infections etc all can make it feel as tho you have a tooth ache, i always tell people to wait until all the other things have cleared up before coming in.
an easy way to figure out what it is , is
pretend theres a line down the middle of your face(lol)
nerve pathways CANT cross that centre line so
if your whole face is sore generally its probably sinus related or you have alot of teeth probs LOL
or if its something else then it should be isloated to one side of your face, however as both upper and lower jaws share the same nerve path sometimes you may think its the top and it could actually be the bottom etc if ya get what i mean. but it should be either left or right.

can also be caused by ears aches too, but if the roof of your mouths sore may be a big ulser i had 1 lastweek bonjella works a treat.

if its still sore tomorrow id go see a dentist for a consultation just het them to hav a look, they may perscribe some antibiotics, but most probably will send u for a panex xray ( xray of your whole mouth) shows all your teeth and where all your wisdom teeth are sitting up in the jaw.

but seriously try the bonjella :)
or if its an ulser on the roof of your mouth daktarin oral gel

Ive got a wisdom tooth giving me hell at the moment as well. Mine broke through years ago but in the past week its gotten really sore. I looked in the mirror and the stupid tooth is sideways so will have to get it pulled out. Im taking panadol for it at the moment but i still feel like ive been kicked in the jaw and have a bit of an earache at times.

Good luck either way i know im delaying the inevitable by not booking a dentist appointment

Eek! Sounds icky Steph!
Random but I got a wisdom tooth when Maya was about 6 mths old, I always thought you got them at like 18, but I was 22. I had braces as a teenager and on the x-rays the orthodontist said I didn't have any wisdom teeth so wouldn't get any, but then low and behold out of the blue when Maya started teething so did I!
It ended up impacted about 2 years later and I had it removed but I never did get any more and the oral surgeon did more x-rays and promised there were none lurking.

LOL its funny as alot of people think that! i did too but you can get them anytime, a few weeks ago we had a 47yr old in to get hers out! they can come thru anytime from 12yrs - 55yrs but generally should show between 16-35
weve even had 1 lucky guy who had 2 sets of lower wisdom teeth! that was weird

I 3rd what Catrad said! Dentists know best! I have been prone to getting abcesses when I am run down and not looking after myself, and need antibiotics for them fairly quickly (as I ended up in hospital for 4 days with one), so I always go get things checked when my mouth starts hurting - tooth/mouth ache is the pits!!! Hope its getting better for you Steph!

cool, i've been doing it for four and a half years ,enjoy the job, get bored of it sometimes (especially R/Ts) some of the dentists i've worked for over the years have been real jerks though, the one i work for now is ok
