Topic: absolutely amazing Posted: 13 March 2006 at 4:44pm |
wow, i got home this morning at 7 after being priveledged to watch my friends baby enter the world
I went to her house at 12midday yesterday as she text asking if u could start labour without ur waters breaking and that shed been getting period like cramps that had been coming and going since two am and were getting worse, so at her house we went for some nice long walks while i timed the contractions and then when they were 4mins apart i suggested she ring her midwife,-that was at 2:30pm but the midwife said since she could still talk through the contractions shed ring back at 5,which was lucky because thats when they started to get slightly harder to bear and she actually stopped what she was doing till they passed....the mw came over and she was 7cms dilated!
We went to botany hospital which doesnt have pain relief apart from gas and a birthing pool and she was doing well but she was sooo tired and afraid and was working against the contractions and she wanted to go to middlemore so off we went and we were in there for about an hour then the doctors came and did ventouse and i saw that little baby change from being just a ten cent size of black hair to a tiny little person.
And she is so gorgeous! and im not one of those people who thinks every baby is good looking so she must be pretty cute lol, brown hair at da mo but can see already it will go blonde...and so curious, and my friend by the time i left had already given her two really good long feeds.
Im almost as proud as if shes mine,it was such an awesome experience, different to your own labour cos your not the one thats in pain lol.Wow im just walking on sunshine
Oh and she was 8ibs3.5oz's

Wow, that must have been cool! It must be a weird thing to watch someone else give birth, especially if you have already had a baby yourself so you can kind of see the progression. I felt like I didn't see the actual progression with my own labour coz I was so focussed on the pain and getting thru it. But being a support person you would see it so much more.
Congrats to your friend!

watching a baby come into the world is almost as magical as bringing one into the world.

it was, man it was so so so so cool-and then seeing my friend in pain and nearly breaking my fingers off (and biting me at one stage) begging me to kill her to put her out of her misery...and then seeing the look of absolute love and wonder when her baby was placed on her -words cant describe it and yep i was crying ...little miss waterworks me lol.
And u know what? even tho i knew how much pain she was in i was like yeah but i still want to do it again...and especially after seeing her (who is nameless as yet btw) it makes me want one even more!!!
must send caitlyn down to the park and pick up a nice man for her mummy LMAO

Go and pinch the guy in the parks dog. then take it back a day later and say you recognised it as being his.

Im so jealous. I got to go with my firned and her mum when she was in labour but they ended up taking her in for a c-section as bubs was getting distressed. Well blow me down if in the op theater the little toad decided to shoot out!!! So missed the the most exciting part but am still glad I got to be there for my friend during her labour. Trying to talk some friends into having more babies so I can come along but no-ones too keen on the idea lol.

Alright... I'll let you off! Sounds like you have very valid excuses (ok... reasons)
One of my cousins wants to be a midwife but she's worried about studying again etc so is going to put it off for a few more years until her kids are at school. I wish she'd follow her dreams and do it now! Think that's why I got so excited about you being a midwife! hehe
The other option is just to make friends with lotsa preggo ladies and play with their newborn babes once they arrive. I think I'd going to use that tactic

lol nikki "excuses"
Yeah i think i'll do that too, encourage my friends to have a lot more "fun" with their partners so i can play with there babies, mwahahaha
Dont worry im determined to be a midwife just want it to be the right time, told my work mate tho and she was so negative about it-but then ive always found her annoying, shes 19 and asian and has led a very sheltered existence AND SHES SUCH A BUTTKISSER-our boss could tell her to jump off a bridge and she would
Shes always saying "its really good that ur parents were supportive of u being unmarried and pregnant" translation "i cant believe ur parents didnt kick u out for having sex before marriage"
AND she said to me one day "arent u worried bout when caitlyns a teen, cos its common knowledge that girls of young single mums end up like them and are more succeptible to drugs and alcohol-that must be like, ur biggest fear"
to which i replied,"No, actually my biggest fear is that she wont become a teenager at all"
SORRY totally off topic but felt like venting
BTW forgot to tell ya , my mates baby is called Shenaye (shenae)

you could do a 'desparate housewife" thing and replace your friends birth control with tic tacs.....nasty!
